Saam Daam Dand Bhed| Indian Express Hindi
Host: Saurabh Dwivedi
Guests: Ritika Chopra, S. Y. Quraishi, Deeptiman Tiwari
For months, two Election Commissioners had been recording their objections in writing. An Indian Express investigation has found that Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised at least 14 formal objections over 10 months.
Their objections were linked to decisions on voter registration, deletion and restoration of names, SIR appeals, and oversight of voter-data systems. According to the investigation, they said several decisions were taken either without their knowledge or against their written advice. The full Election Commission met on September 9, its first full meeting in four months.
In this episode, Saurabh Dwivedi speaks to the reporter Ritika Chopra who worked on the investigation and a former Chief Election Commissioner. They discuss how the story was reported, how a three-member Election Commission is supposed to function, why some commissioners reportedly learnt about key decisions from the media, what constitutional questions the SIR raises, and what questions CEC Gyanesh Kumar still needs to answer.
