The best Dragon ball z fighting game ever and the only version that's gonna beat it in terms of gameplay is the Budokai 4 mod you guys are preparing.

To me, I still think that the vanilla Budokai 3 holds a special place in my heart.

Since I don't see it anywhere in the comments, To anyone wondering why the Soundtrack was changed in the HD Collection its cuz the composer, Kenji Yamamoto, was caught in a massive plagiarism scandal. Majority of his music was basically stolen from others.

Once you hear the comparisons, and more of who he stole from you'll wonder why he wasn't caught sooner.

Slight issue to keep in mind that only affects North America as far as I'm aware. The original run of the Greatest Hits version accidentally shipped with Vanilla. So there's a chance that if you get your hands on a Greatest Hits copy that it'll be the Vanilla version.

I remember when my friend got botleg version of budokai 3 where you couldn't select alt outfit and the only way to get it was picking random character until you got outfit you wanted😂

Budokai 3 was my first PS2 game, i played it so much that the disc got scratched to the point of no return, it took me a few years to buy the game again, as a DBZ child i would never skip the opening

For me the version I dislike the most is the HD one
Reason: Soundtrack

IIRC European and American vanilla versions also differ by the European having Kageyama on the opening while US gets the guitar lead. IDK about Greatest Hits/Collector's.

still remember returning in my home country from vaccation in winter, arrived at the Snowy Geneva airport with a sad mind, and stopped in front of a gameshop in the airport, i saw the Vanilla B3 with Broly and Cooler on the cover only to get surprised by my parents when they decided to buy me this game over 70.- ... that's why it will remain for me the best version of all time 😂

Great video! I've been playing this game since I was a kid and I've always wondered what the distinctions were between these versions. Very informative!

BRO, THIS IS CHANGES EVERYTHING OF WHAT I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT!!! When checking combos for many characters, the top tier were always Goku and Cell (as an example), I was like "Hmm that these basic strings doesnt connect and some of the chargeable attacks be canceled but won't hit as they always block it"

But if this was the case then previous Budokai games has the same issue that they wont connect, like Goku spirit bomb combo in B1 could connect with 50fps version. This could be the issue of optimization for the US versions

Me who was planning to play the US greatest hit copy of the game now made me reconsider on trying the European collector edition and try out on my steam deck.

The cover with the vengeful and angry Super Saiyan goku punching the "fourth wall" was the one i bought and I loved the look of it then and i love it now. Its just a really cool cover. I remember thinking how intense it was as a kid.
