Shady XV cypher reaction with **Eminem, Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf**, and this one ended up being way better than I expected.
I came into it ready to clown Yelawolf.
Instead, the biggest surprise was Crooked.
And not in the way I expected.
Crooked’s bars weren’t trash, but the DELIVERY wasn’t hitting me. That was the issue. He had lines, references, and technical writing, but the way he was delivering them kept taking me out of it.
Then Joe Budden came in.
And completely changed the energy.
Joe stopped worrying about just stacking punchlines and started talking about real life:
family illness.
Stress.
Funerals.
Mental health.
Trying to perform while dealing with things way bigger than rap.
That verse was CRAZY to me because the pen was still there, but now there was actually emotion behind it.
Then came Yelawolf.
And I was absolutely ready to roast him.
The beginning?
Still wasn’t feeling it.
The “my name is Wayne, I’m from Alabama” setup had me wondering when the actual rapping was going to start.
But then something happened.
His verse got better.
Way better.
Once he got into the mansion / four-wheelers / drug dealer / cowboy boots / Goodwill / lifestyle section, he finally jumped into a pocket that sounded natural to HIM.
That’s when I started understanding the appeal.
By the end, I had to admit:
Yelawolf actually had some hard moments.
Then Joell Ortiz came in with the math schemes and did his thing.
And Royce?
Royce started talking that TALK.
The marketing-plan scheme about netting more than you gross versus punching somebody and investing in a grocery store had me dying.
That’s exactly the kind of ridiculous-but-smart Royce writing I like.
Then Eminem gets SEVEN MINUTES.
And once he starts, it’s just one giant technical run.
Pop culture.
Wordplay.
Internal rhymes.
Self-deprecation.
Battle bars.
Shady humor.
And him basically reminding everybody why he can take over a cypher whenever he feels like it.
My final verdict?
This was better than the other Shady freestyle I had just heard because everybody actually contributed something memorable.
And somehow:
*Crooked had my least favorite verse.*
I did NOT expect that.
