Reminders guys- a car can and WILL make it a long distance on a flat or a bare rim even, yes, there will be damage. But paying a fat chunk of change to the rental co is better than dying. Also, if you’re doing something stupid- be smart about it. If you’re gonna drive a road like this in a car that’s not meant for it- bring a FEW cans of fix-a-flat. It literally WILL seal a puncture. These guys could’ve survived if they literally just had a few cans of fix-a-flat

I’m strangely addicted to these stories. As an alpine mountaineer I understand the clear and present danger with the non- negotiable laws of Mother Nature. It’s a balance between the alluring unreal beauty and nature’s indifference  to the loss of life should you fail to lose respect and humility.

Just drive the car out on the rim.  What is wrong with these people?   If you get a flat on an unsafe position on a busy highway, you drive on the rim to get to a safe place.

I wouldn't leave the car lol

I drove that road with a Subaru Legacy about 25 years ago at the end of May. It was not hot yet that year. I got a flat. I made it out on the spare.

It's called DEATH Valley not Life Valley.

I'll never understand why these folks hike at the hottest time of the year in Death Valley.

The main reason tires fail out there is that the hotter the environment, the more air pressure builds inside the tire, causing it to blow and/or puncture more easily.

😅
I was just talking to my brother about NEVER going to Death Valley today!
What if your car broke down?
It's simply not worth the risk.
(They could have driven 15 miles on the flat 😢)
It's so sad that they didn't know that.

Sometimes one is hypnotized by nature. It lures you.☕️

I guess it's called Death Valley for a reason.

ONCE YOU DIE YOU CAN'T GO BACK TO DEATH VALLEY THE NEXT YEAR.

TY for everything you do 😄🙏

I don’t understand why people don’t understand the heat. I didn’t grow up in dry heat and I understand it’s dangerous. I’m not not smartest either but people are just dumb.

Why walk away from the road and away from the water?

Both dead at 26.  So sad.

I have to say this - once you have replaced the flat tire with the teeny tiny emergency tire, you should not proceed away from help but go back toward help instead.  Those little tires are almost useless on good pavement, but on a rough track they are of no use.  It too will be flat or otherwise broken, pronto!

Bro just drive on the rim

Or, and hear me out, rent or borrow a vehicle with tires suitable.for the heat and the sharp rock terrain. If the rental place says dont take the car off the pavement  that's not the vehicle.

What would happen if rhey'd still use the car? Driving really slow?
