There should be a passenger train service to Dayton, Columbus, and Cleveland!!! And the freaking streetcar should go to the university, the airport, Newport, and Covington as well
This is one of those small channels you stumble upon that creates content of such high quality that belies it's subscriber count and scratches an itch in my brain I didn't know I had.
I really appreciate your thoughtful analysis on Cincinnati! I visited last year for the first time, and I could not agree more about the friendliness of the people. I ran in the Flying Pig Marathon and so I really got to see many neighborhoods, and man were the residents so supportive to the runners in a way that I've never seen before! Really made the race for me.
The issue with 3CDC and OTR is the displacement of the communities that were and are living there. Many of them are just shut out of housing with no place to go. Cincinnati has a rocky history with this (if you’re interested, look into Kenyon-Barr & the west end)
Another look into this side of the discussion, watch the short film “good white people”
Although, I do agree that 3CDC is a net positive, encouraging mixed use, small business, and turning unused places into active areas
Cinci is awesome, dude. My gf just spent 3 years down there for work while I’ve been in Cle. I was never upset to head down tho. Glad I got to spend so much time there, definitely a hidden gem. OTR is a top 10 neighborhood in the states.
One of the best parts of Washington Park and Fountain Square is that during their summer programming the events will draw people from all walks of life around the city. I've never seen 3rd spaces with such diverse and organic interactions anywhere.
I had the chance to visit Cincinnati recently and it blew me away. OTR is really a hidden gem of a neighborhood but the rest of the city seems to be continuously making progress in the right direction. I would love to go back in a few years and see how much better it gets
Some people say 3CDC is evil because they incentivize new businesses to open up in prime locations only for them to increase rent over 50 - 100% after 2 years. Which is unsustainable with its “churn and burn” model. Countless businesses open up, build communities only for them to close due to this reason. Which damages sustainability in community.
They are called racists because they target primarily black neighborhoods even when they don’t have any active plans for them. Folks who have been there for generations are forced out, paid less than what the value they believe their properties will be worth because 3CDC has that leverage, it’s either you take what we’re offering because no one else will. Which is incredibly odd behavior considering this is supposed to be a “non profit”.
There has been claims of corruption within this organization, somebody, somewhere is getting kick backs off this organization, it’s just off the books.
3CDC is controversial to say the lease, the sad part is that their model has created a foundation for other cities to follow which could be a good or bad thing.
I knew I wasn't crazy when I came the first time; I visited down from Michigan last summer to meet my current girlfriend, by like day 2.5, we're standing outside and I look to her saying, "I think I wanna stay here. I love this city, it feels like me." That was in august, by october I was making the 5 hour trip to move in with her. I couldn't be happier out here, Michigan had nothing for me.
I’ve happily just found your channel. Thank you for taking the time to make such a detailed video about Cincy! I love living here and am so glad you enjoyed your visit.
Lived here my whole life, except for college in Nashville. Moved back of course, and for obvious reasons. Your video is 1000% accurate. On display is the most amazing city everyone overlooks. Watching this video made me realize I take for granted the lifestyle I’ve come to know every day. We are starting to get accustomed to all the blockbuster movies being filmed here due to the architecture. All are welcome and you won’t regret it. Bakersfield is known for strong margaritas FYI.
I also love this city. I think it's a great example of a city rising from the ashes and escaping urban renewal. The big project of the town across from it is insane, too.
