Spent loads of time back here in the early 90s as a kid back when you could wander round for hours and hours playing hide and seek with my mates

She used to tell stories of chingle hall just down the road .

I know the guy that used to live in the gatehouse with the pointed tower. He was a kid there along time ago.
Whittingham is said to be extremely haunted.

It seems like they had the best intentions when building the hospital with all the facilities for everyone, but unfortunately ended up in the wrong hands over time.

And for the grounds now and the new build houses I certainly wouldn’t be in a rush to put in a offer on a house with this detailed history 😅

I was a patient at Whittingham Hospital in the early 90's, I was there for around 4 week's suffering with psychosis, Anxiety and Depression. It was a very foboding place, i recall it being eerie and quite daunting in the evening's, especially the shower room's. I was on 121 care so alway's had a staff member breathing over me, even sitting outside whilst i showered. I wish i got to explore the whole place, but I was stuck on a mixed ward's, the day room was cold draughty with high ceiling's with bay window's.
It must have closed down a few year's after I left. I can totally see this place having activity with all the human suffering that went on there.

I remember getting the train from Grimsargh to Whittingham Hospital with my parents in the 1950’s. You could walk through the grounds then. Perhaps it was an Open Day. Also, you could meet patients allowed out in the daytime walking the lanes from Whittingham, in my case, to Grimsargh. The only other memory is when my mother told me years later, when I was sorting out the family tree, that one of her brothers was at Dunkirk and ended up at Whittingham to recuperate after an awful time waiting to be rescued to be brought back to England.

I would like to point out where you have secure unit matked more old buildings once stood. You are also missing the train yard, water treatment plats and many other finer details. Such as the large oblong building bottom left of the ariel shot was the nurses home and the doctors houses alongside them then further again there stood more buildings which were flattenend approx 1998.
