Genuinely I think this show is better off the BBC than it was on, feels like the cast are having a much more relaxed time, having a bit more fun with it

So I was actually at the recording of this episode, here are some bits you might like:
It was recorded on Tuesday the 8th of September at BBC Television Centre in TC3. I’ve been to a few recordings of shows and security here was by far the strictest, having to go through airport scanners, and the lady made me pour out my flasks of squash I’d prepared for my long day out in London. Not quite sure what she thought I might do with them.
At the start before the recording, we had a warm up guy, then the producer Dan Patterson spoke, then Dara did a bit for the audience, and introduced the guests one at a time. Hugh did his dinosaur walk going to the desk.
During the ad breaks, virtually nothing happened, they just paused for a few seconds, then went right back to it. I say this because I’ve been to things before where sometimes things would get done in the ad breaks, but not here.
After Hugh says he’s gonna drop his “proper music” gag, Dara said he should try again in 20 mins or so, but I think they could both tell it had outlived its humour. When Ahir did his bit about recommending Indian builders, he had a longer bit about how the BBC wouldn’t have allowed it back when they were on BBC Two.
Whenever the panelists get up and walk elsewhere in the studio, it’s done in multiple takes in order to get different camera angles. And in our case, they had to redo a couple of them because we kept applauding even when we shouldn’t. Dara said they’d never had an audience as keen to applaud as we were. At the end of the stand up round, Scott messed up by going back to his spot in the performance area, instead of going straight back to his seat, so they had to retake that. Speaking of that round, Dara did a few versions of that intro with a different name each time. The one they used in the show was the first one, which was my favourite, although I can’t remember what the others were!
Speaking of retakes, they did a couple. Dara messed up introducing the first round so they had to do it again, but for the most part the show just went on. Pick ups and retakes were done at the end, with things like recording Dara saying “In other news” and similar. At the very end, after the show was done, Dara made a Jimmy Saville joke, and Hugh naturally did his Showaddywaddy line. After that, they recorded the promos and took some promo photos.
They recorded 2 rounds that didn’t make the cut. One was Audience Questions. Annoyingly, I was sat right near one of them, so I could have possibly been on camera! I got talking with the other guy on the way out, he told me he was picked just because he was near the front of the queue to get in, and sadly they’re given pre-written questions!
The other round they cut was one of those things you’d see on Facebook 15 years ago, where they had to replace a movie title with the name of a politician. I am not surprised they cut it, considering it was very clear that none of the panel wanted to do it, and the audience wasn’t loving it either. Except Laura and Sara, weirdly, who had clearly pre-prepared a load of them and were doing a back and forth to one-up each-other that really revived the mood in the room, so well done to them.
Recording was long. They started letting us in at 5, I think we began filming around 6 (Although getting your phone out in that room was a death sentence, so I can’t tell you for sure), and we didn’t finish until like twenty past 9, so by that point I was really ready to stand up. I had an aisle seat too, I imagine I’d have been really uncomfortable squashed into one of the middle seats.

I love how its just an unspoken law of MTW that Hugh always has to get thr answer on PotW

Rhys has really matured in his comedy since he first showed up on Mock the Week, he's absolutely perfect for the role now.
However there's something about Hugh that just sits in your head as "yep, this is peak Mock the Week". He still has the perfect delivery to everything.

That Scott stand up about Smart metres wasn’t only just relatable, but was bloody hilarious!

You can see Dara physically pressing the buzzer after every go on the standup rounds and I don't get why but it just works

Fab to see MtW back. Yet again shows how mad the BBC were to end the show….Love the freedom the panel have now they aren’t constrained by the BBC no swearing policy
