In this episode, Dr. Michael Heiser talks with Dr. Justin Bass about the biblical language of the **afterlife**, beginning with terms like **Sheol, Hades, the Abyss, and Tartarus**. The discussion explores where the dead go, how Old Testament and New Testament afterlife concepts develop, why Hades is not the same as the final Lake of Fire, and how Jesus’ descent into the realm of the dead connects to the hope of resurrection and final judgment.

I really don't know the details about this podcast from Our Extraordinary Brother Mike but I sense in his voice that this might have been one of his last ones. And just thinking about it, it completely breaks my heart. If this is true, this was Mike, never stopping, never stepping back in his ENDLESS FIGHT FOR THE TRUTH. How can we pay back just a little but for this inmense gift that Mike was for christendom and for each one of us individually????
There is no way to reciprocate.... and it aldo makes me sad.

Whatever You are doing now Mike in the Throne Room, know that WE MISS YOU!!!! We miss You SO MUCH!!!

God Bless Brothers....

Praise God! Dr. Mike and Justin Bass, so glad to have heard these two brothers together! As an online student of Awakening School of Theology, this was extra special. As Dr. Bass finished up the last semester as the teacher for us as Dr. Mike could not. Great guys in the work of teaching Biblical studies. Forever grateful. Hallelujah and Amen!!!!

It is interesting that on the day of my dad's funeral that a tornado came through the neighborhood and completely destroyed the neighborhood drug lab that he was so disturbed about...as well as many others.

So glad I found this talk. Been ruminating on this topic for a while because I’ve always known my Protestant background had never gotten this topic right. I’m a deep studier of scripture, always addressing things at the level of the original languages, but not being a full time scholar and academic of it (I’m a stay at home mom with limited time) I haven’t yet been able to dissect this subject as well as I’d like to. This talk completely filled in that gap! Blessings to all and missing you tremendously, Mike ❤️

Read the comments and I see denominational interpretation getting ruffled up. Mike has always repeated that this is his opinion and what he saw from the text, he never pushed his theology to anyone. What’s he’s saying is not meant to replace ur theology but look at things differently. I’d say he’s the real non denominational Christian. He demolished most interpretations. Just my opinion of course

Christians must understand what the spirit, soul, and body is to actually understand this topic properly.

Ruth here, so much it seems seminarians are full of indoctrination, so many churches gave in or pushed the jab, closed churches

27:00 I also believe that the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus is a true story, because I can't imagine Jesus making up a conversation between Abraham and someone else that never occurred. If it was fictional, I believe that Jesus would have used fictional people.

You've got to remember that Er, the soldier, lived BEFORE Christ became flesh and overcame death and he'll and set the captives FREE!

I heard from one Pastor here in YouTube that there were 2 compartments in Hades as in the Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. The first compartment was the Bosom of Abraham and the other is the Place of Torment. The former are for the dead souls of Gods people and the latter for those unbelievers. He also explained that after the resurrection, the dead believers souls goes to where the Lord is but the unbelievers goes to the place of Torment. That means that the Bosom of Abraham is no longer there as the Lord Jesus had brought the souls there with him during the resurrection and up to heaven. Moreover, after the resurrection the souls of the dead believers goes up to be with the Lord.
