Very good video. Installation of pushrods once the guide plates are centred while case is apart can be helpful to ensure every clearance is spot on. Also Installation of distributor drive, shim, spring, distributor before crankshaft is installed can be helpful too. Just install with the #1 rod up and that makes it a simple thing too with zero chances of mis-indexing etc. Not essential but might help out others.
I bought a 58 bug with a 36 horse. Replaced the left head and a bent pushrod. drove a 146,000 trouble and leak free miles when it finally left the fleet. only mod was an old nos Abarth muffler. I was a fool to sell it.
Why Is Everyone Missing The Major Problem With Type-1 Thrust Bearings an No I'm Not a Rocket Scientist But Damnit !!!!!!!!!!!!!! VW seen Their Mistake on The Type 1 Trust Main an Corrected it on The Type-4 Trust Main by Moving The Oil Groove To The inside And Getting Rid of Those 2 Upraised Embosses That Does Nothing But Murder The Case Saddles an Then it Starts Pouring Oil out The Oil Seal and Even Though it Is a Perfect Running Engine Other Than "That" Your left With No Choice But To Tare it Completely Down To Line Bore it Which is Total Bullshit When There is a Fix along With a Counterweighted Crank if Bearing Companies Such as KING BEARING Co. Would Only Do it and That's Build Thrust Mains For The Type-1 Exactly Like The Type-4 Thrust Main and Offer These Bearings in a Complete High Performance Main Bearing Package But Hell No I'm Left With Machineing My Own Thrust Main on a Lathe And Had To Machine an Arbor To Hold The 80/80 Thrust Main Before I Even Was Able To Machine It And If You've Got a Case That's Been Bored Past 0.020 on The Case The 80/80 Bearing Won't Clean Up and it's Defeating The Purpose ! When I'm Finished After about 4 Hours of Tedious Machining I've Got a Bearing Completely Slick across The Back except For a Narrower Shallow Oil Groove in The Center and Shallow Dowel locating Hole . I Come Back then and Machine The Oil Groove To The Depth of a Standard Bearing But I Do Not Make it Any Wider Then I Use My Dremel Tool To Match Port The Edge of The Groove To The Oil Galley in The Case actually Making It Just a Tad Bigger So No Matter How Many Thousandths The Dowel Is To One Side The Bearing It Will Still Get Full Port with No Restrictions !!!!! Then I Come Back and Deepen The Dowel Hole To Standard Depth and Friends Even After 15 Years Of Running Highways I Still Have No Wollowed Out Case !!! I'm gonna Play The Devil's Advocate Now The Sad Part is I Have To Buy 2 Sets of Main Bearings To Do This Modification But it's Damn Well Worth it if You've Got Access To a 4 Jawed Lathe where You Can Dial The Bearing in Perfect Both Ways As in Linear and The Hop Again it's Gotta Be Dialed in PERFECTLY !!!!!!!!!!Sure Wish I Could Show Y'all The Difference in The Holding Area on The Back of it That Rides against The Case it's Way More Than You'd Think And I'm Proof it Works and Makes a Big Difference and These Engines I've Done This Too Don't Even Have Counterweighted Cranks Sooooooo KING BEARING Co. I Challenge Y'all To Step up To The Plate And Build Us Main Bearing Sets For The Type-1 That's Designed Like The Type-4 So I Can Stop Having To Buy 2 Bearing Sets and 4 Hours of Tedious Machine work Just To Build 1 Engine Cause I Refuse To Use Standard Replacement Bearings For The Type-1 Engine Only To Torture and Murder The Damn Engine Case !!! PS No Incase Your Wondering l Don't Have a Damn Patent on This Trust Main Nor Do l Want One l Just Want a Better Damn Thrust Main For The Type-1 for us VW Folks an KING BEARING Co. By God Y'all Could Do This Easily If Y'all Would By Putting The Oil Groove on The Inside like a Type-4 an Getting Rid of Those Damn Upraised Embosses on The Back an Eliminates The Damn Job Of Having To Tare One Down Just Because it's Wollowed The Case Out From a Pitifully Designed Thrust Main !!!!! πΊπΈπ‘
Question: I am attempting to build my 36hp to the Okrasa upgrade. I ordered the head and carb kit from Wolfsburg west along with the 81mm piston kit. Can use also the 69.5mm crank with these pistons ? And also use my stock rods ?
