Today I'm using a Circuit Cube and Power Functions motor to get the new LEGO Harbour freight locomotive to move under its own power! I'll take you through step by step so you can see exactly how I've done it.

Not having a driver in there might be somewhat realistic because the beacon on top of the cab mostly means that it's remote control operated or RCO meaning that the driver is on the ground throwing switches which would be perfect for a harbor

Good idea, but I'm probably going to motorize a small container car with powered up that I'll run right behind this. That way, there's the possibility for lights leading into the original shunter.

Never thought of wiring a Lego motor to a Circuit Cube battery - great idea to overcome the bulky and expensive Lego bluetooth battery.

Oh this is delightful! You can make a radio control console for the driver/operator to “account” for the empty cab using the striped cab controls!

It plays rather prototypical to American switching (shunting) engines that are configured for remote controlled locomotives used in classification yards.
I was considering a “calf-cow/slug-mother” using two units but this seems much better streamlined!

When was the last time Lego made a Small Diesel cuz the last one I remember was that one Factory set with those Hobby Trains

Pleased to see that this worked. When you started the Mod I thought you were going to feed the cable into the front part of the loco and place the circuit cube in the engine compartment, thus leaving the cab area free. I see that the circuit cube is 4 studs wide, but you could a) just rebuild the engine bay around the circuit cube and accept the difference in colour, b) mount it sideways to fit within the 4 stud width, or c) as a) but clad the sides with brackets and tiles in turquoise to hide it.
