I've followed your channel for a few years now and also have lived in the Clarksville/New Albany area my entire life, I'm now 52. I appreciate your channel so much and never knew most of what you cover, even if it's in the newer history of the area. It most definitely helps me to appreciate and love the area that I call home! Thank you! 🥰

I was a railroad engineer and drove many trains through the Big Tunnel and have many great stories working between Cincinnati and Washington Indiana

I lived in Campbellsburg when I was a kid. When me and my brother heard the train coming we would run 4 blocks to the train track and they would throw out candy to us. It was so cool for a kid

We are so lucky to have Rodger and his channel. Thank you again.

Jeez. I grew up in Southern Indiana. I never realized how much the loss of our train infrastructure really messed up the local economy for a lot of towns since it started happening when I was really young. I always just missed getting to hear the sound of the train passing by. Makes me sad. We're really leaving the towns that aren't connected to major highways out in the dust, and we don't need to.

When I was a kid in the 60's there was still a town called "Lookout" at the junction of Hwy 48 and 129, there are still a few houses in the area, but it once had a large general store and post office that are gone. Once again thank you Roger for a trip through time in southern Indiana.

Living in Southern Indiana for all of my 63 years I have definitely visited several of these locations. However, you introduced me to a few I’ve never heard of. I feel a Spring roadtrip coming on! Thanks for another great video ❤

My grandpa was born in Ft. Ritner 10 6 1913 directly east of the old post office in a 1 room log cabin. The chimney was still partially standing in 2000. He is buried just north of town at Dixon Chapel. I appreciate your videos.  Thank you.

I appreciate these videos Roger. You are doing Indiana a great service!

My McKinley family has a long history in Borden.  They settled there between 1810 and 1813 and had large families there.  The old McKinley home still stands, getting close to 200 years old, and now is the Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home.  My 2nd Great Grandfather McKinley operated a tannery at that property for 41 years (1866-1907).  He was born and died in that home, having lived for 76-1/2 years.  My Grandfather McKinley graduated from the Borden Institute in 1906, the last class of the school before it closed that year.  No one in the McKinley clan lives there anymore that I know of.

I was around for the 1974 tornado outbreak. Absolutely devastating. The path of destruction was unbelievable.

You forgot to mention the Whispers Estate in Mitchell.  One of the most haunted places in the country

New subscriber and southern Indiana resident since 1954. Great video, no goofy music and your voice is clear and pleasant - Good Job and Thanks!

As someone nearing retirement out West but with Midwestern roots, I always fantasize about finding a semi-derelict old building that I could restore in a small town like these. Beyond the risk of living in tornado alley though, I think of my mother who used to say that unless I grew up in any of these small towns, then I'd never quite fit in as I didn't come up through the schools, make friends, work there, have shared experiences with the neighbors and so on. That I'd always be an outsider. So there's that too. Nevertheless, I don't think I'd let that stop me as I'm comfortable with solitude and there isn't much here beyond work to keep me rooted anyway.

Thanks for posting this.

I grew up I Madison Indiana. Thank you for taking me back home Even if only for an hour or two❤

I grew up here in southern Indiana. As a kid and I still love running the Birdseye back roads and going on road trips around here.

Born and raised in Southern Indiana some 80 years ago.  Warm and wonderful memories of  a time and place(s) that no longer exists. Long before school consolidation’s, played Indiana’s national sport of high school basketball at several of these towns you visited (Go Hoosiers). Saw life at its best and worst when tornados regularly wiped out entire towns in what is known as tornado alley.
Both warms and breaks my heart to see these in passing but the memories remain🥲

I was born in Huntingburg Indiana, we lived in English, IN. For a while, then dad got on with L&N railroad in Louisville KY, so we moved to Charlestown IN.  He got laid off, and we moved to Knoxville, Tn. For a couple of years, then he got laid off there, so we moved back to Charlestown, Indiana, lived there until my 5th grade year was over. We moved back to Knoxville, Tn, been in Tennessee ever since. Actually, as I type this, I'm sitting in French Lick, Indiana up here, visiting my cousins who still live in English, Indiana. Love this video, I remember English and Marengo being busy towns for no bigger than they were. I can say we didn't have running water in the bathroom and had to take baths by heating water up on the stove, and we had to use the outhouse, too, we had the best childhood though. The farm kept us busy and we didn't have much money. We wore hand me downs, but we didn't go hungry much from having a garden, dairy cows, and a few beef cows.

I once pucked up a load of ball bearings in Campbellsburg. I worked for a smallbtrucking company as a CDL-A driver (semi truck) I was home one day and the boss asked me for a favor, all the cargo vans were running and he had an emergency call to pickup a load for trw in campbellsburg, and they asked if I could pick it up in my pickup truck (94 ford Ranger). They told me it was 1000 lbs. So I agreed, and headed south. Turned out it was 3000 lbs. Which was 500 lbs. Over my trucks payload rating. The suspension wasn't quite bottomed out, so I ran with it to Lafayette with the truck squatting. Little truck handled it like a champ.
