As a Nigerian black brit, I think this is an amazing subject and one our people should dissucs more and divie into it. I think if Africans and Carribeans can come to understand each other and build unity in the dispora togther we can work as one to build the home lands. We are one, and should find a way to move in that mindset. 🙏🏾

I read a book years ago called How Europe Underdeveloped Africa, and one of the topics in that book was about the brain drain in Africa. How many Africans study nursing, law, physics and engineering in universities in Europe, and they never return with the specialty in their respective fields. There are a plethora of reasons as to why many chose not to go back, but that in itself is disunity and does a disservice to the cultural mindset, especially for the younger generation.

U definitely right, we mustn't be divided, we need to work with each other.

Once you come to Britain especially in a working class environment that tends to shape you that's why you saw more African boys opting to pursue football, music or street life over university which would have been the accusation levelled at Caribbean boys. African and Caribbean children are mixing more than their parents or grandparents generation so they'll be influenced by each other. They might have an African dad and Caribbean mum or vice versa. They will still have a connection with their respective heritages but they will also connect with each others heritages through music, food and shared experiences.

Also thank you to the Windrush Generation we all own a big thank you and respect to such an amazing generation that has had such an impact on so many levels. Growing up I wanted to be Caribbean as I was in love with the food music and culture and it still shapes aspects of me today. Infact my Pan African mindset was heavly influenced by the Pan African Sat & Sunday schools that the West Indian community in London set up. We are one 🫡 🙏🏾

A very interesting presentation! Such discussions improve understanding between the two groups and pave the way for more collaborative activities rather than seeing each other as 'the other'. Much work is needed to achieve that objective and identify those who try to benefit from the differences! Thanks for your contribution!

One important difference is historical distance. Many Caribbean people are descendants of Africans taken through the transatlantic slave trade and separated from specific ethnic roots for centuries. That long rupture—roughly 400 years of displacement, forced mixing, and colonial rule—meant that many original languages, names, and customs were partially lost or transformed into something new. Caribbean culture is therefore not “less African”; it is African heritage reshaped through survival under extraordinary conditions.

For the thumbnail, you could say there several Africans who have been rooted in the UK for generations. You can also say for many Caribbean people that we have strong ties to home (many of us came to this country in recent times). You can also say for many Caribbean people that education & ambition is a focus especially among the more skilled Caribbean immogrants that have come in more recent times. I would say that Africans from certain countries & Ethnic groups do stick together more (amongst their groups).

African traders from the continent of Africa was in Liverpool during.the 16th century.. Please my people stop these negative comments that perpetrates the ignorance of some of our people. Why are we desperate ly trying to cause divisions among ourselves ? There is no hierarchy of black we are one people that share the same shades of colour
How many of you actually realise that there are other blacks on this planet apart from The continent of North America, Africa and the Caribbean that are not dissing their own but surviving ?

1:18: West Indians only came to Uk from the 2nd World war onwards. Previous to that, African traders travelled to, and lived in the U.K, particularly around Cardiff and Liverpool. The distrust between Caribbean blacks and Africans began during slavery when slave owners were wary of newly arrived slaves who had not grown up in slavery, so discouraged Caribbean born slaves from fraternising with the newly arrived slaves from Africa. It has taken people like Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley (free yourself from mental slavery) to try to change that mindset.

Excellent definition; you just said it all.

I didn't know they did think differently, but this is interesting so I'll watch.

You are correct Brotha. Growing up in 90's Africans linked up with our Carribean islands Brothas and Sistahs.

Although some of our Carribean cousin's weren't feeling us like that back then. It is was it is.

Also true some Africans did unfortunately stereotype some within the Caribbean Islands communities.

I personally got on well with most of them from University, working and even socialising.

After all is said an done we are all one family from Motherland Mama Africa ❤

The mindset is different because of 400 years of separation
The cultural differences has been extremely diluted but the Caribbean still have tried to maintain their African ancestry.
