Once had that happen picking a coke bottle out of the cooler at our local store. I think it was more likely in the past when bottles were actually reused and refilled... Repeated trips through the bottling plant would score the bottom as that's where they would contact the machinery. See the opening credits of Laverne & Shirley if you want to to see what I mean
