Panicking that Inspector Andrew Monroe will discover fake bank notes in Chief Inspector Conway's memorial fund, PC Des Taviner takes a reckless gamble to destroy the evidence. Exploiting a violent riot outside the station yard, Des throws a petrol bomb into Monroe's office—unaware that gas cylinders are stored inside. The resulting blast tears through CID and the station house, killing six officers and forever changing Sun Hill in one of the most explosive twists in the show's 26-year run.
