Many viewers I respect are contacting me to say that while my heart is in the right place, I'm falling for some deliberate obfuscation here, and I would be doing more good to highlight the problematic capabilities that these systems already have. I am reaching out to experts, and will make a follow-up video if I can, focusing specifically on where I may be wrong.

I also know this is a contentious topic, so let me be clear on my views:


-I do not support the radical increase in AI capability or data center infrastructure. When I say "slow down" or "stop," I mean everything. I don't mean give them more money or land. No one wants this.
-I have no love for Silicon Valley. I chastise these billionaire tech bros every chance I get because I do not believe they have the best interests of any of us outside their illusion in mind.
-I try to call attention to possibilities like consciousness, even if it's not a proven problem like misalignment, even if it's coming from someone the field is wary of, because I want to be sensitive to everything when something could be an existential risk, which I believe AI is, at the very least to the social fabric.
-I absolutely see the other problems, and we've talked about a few of them on the channel. If I had the real means to do a full investigative documentary about heat pollution and book shredding, I would.
-I say we "accidentally" built it because these systems repeatedly present behaviors we didn't fully intend. I say "we" meaning us humans. Musk is not like us.
-Even if these systems never become conscious, they are still the killer whale in the tank. I constantly worry that we don't worry enough about swimming in the same water with something that can outperform us in every way in that environment.

I hate the idea that's being sold to people now that the big danger is the machines possibly going rogue and not the fact these billionaires built and exploited them against our interests for a long time now.  

"Oh no the machine is going rogue and ruining our lives cause of it's consciousness" as opposed to "Oh no the machine is ruining our lives cause about 4 different billionaire man-babies are at the controls."

Isn't it scary enough without the thought experiment? Why would I care whether one powerful soulless entity wants to ruin my life or the 4 or so extremely wealthy soulless entities want to ruin my life?

The reports of "rogue" AI is more AI companies pulling the trigger on a gun in a random direction and claiming they had no idea it would hit something. They do what they have been trained to do.

We already anthropomorphize our cars, of course we'll anthropomorphize AI.

It's not surprising that chat bots write like humans, because that is all they have been trained on. Why are we surprised that a machine build to mimic human speech patterns, are exactly doing that.
That is no indication of consciousness, it's the imitation of it, by design.

Playing into the narrative of AI being sentient and destroying humanity is just helping OpenAI, Anthropic and other big tech AI companies. They want us to discuss some unlikely future possibilities so we go blind on the current, real problems caused by AI, like datacenters, pollution, intellectual property theft and destruction of books, because us ignoring current problems is what makes them money.
