Paleontologist Dave Hone rates the realism of every "Jurassic Park" movie.

He talks about how the T. rex hunted down its prey, how the Gallimimus outran predators, and what Velociraptors actually looked like in "Jurassic Park," starring Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern.

He debunks myths about the Stegosaurus' spikes and the T. rex's vision in "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," starring Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn.

He discusses how Pteranodons flew and moved around on land in "Jurassic Park III," starring William H. Macy.

He breaks down how a predator could take down an Ankylosaurus, how an Ankylosaurus defended itself with its tail, and the differences between Pteranodons and other flying dinosaurs like the Dimorphodon in "Jurassic World," starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

He explains why some dinosaurs with sharp claws couldn't outclimb humans and how others could deliver devastating headbutts in "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom."

Finally, he does a deep dive on the many feathered dinosaurs featured in "Jurassic World: Dominion."

Dave Hone is a paleontologist at Queen Mary University of London. He has been studying the behavior, ecology, and anatomy of dinosaurs for 20 years.

Well great, now I've got an image of the T-rex hitting its leg on a tree and falling over like Peter Griffin holding his knee in pain

I'd love to see an extended version of this, where he reviews every single attack. Even if it was an hour, two hours, I'd love to see / hear the real views of this paleontologist!!

Jurassic Park portrays them more as animals, while Jurassic World turns them into movie characters

In the Baryonyx scene, it always bothered me how this animal has lava dropped on its head and he just shakes it off like nothing, not even a scar, and continues the hunt.

This is the level of enthusiasm and excitement I expect from my palaeontologists. Great video.

The idea of these things actually once existing is still crazy

What drives me crazy about the Pyroraptor swimming is they finally give a dromaeosaur a full coat of feathers, taking all this effort in the behind the scenes to go through different feather options and looks.....only to make it swim in ice cold water. A place where non-hydrodynamic feathers are about the worst things you could have on your body.

Like at least give them the type of feathers that are sleek and hydrophobic, like a penguin or a duck. Not shaggy rooster feathers.

I think one critical thing most people miss about the Jeep scene is that vehicle was in nuetral for a solid 8-10 seconds of the whole chase (Malcom climbs into the front seat and knocks it out of gear) which means it was just coasting and wasn't actively accelerating. This is also the point in the scene when Rexy caught up with it.

At 2:45 is one of my all-time favorite unspoken jokes with the camera view showing the rear-view mirror - "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear." Excellent work by Spielberg.

I love how he takes the time period the films were made and what we knew at the time into account. For the time, the original Jurassic Park was pretty good. Even though we know more now and can point out all the inaccuracies, it's still a FUN film.

Something good about that Stegosaurus depiction is showing herbivores as aggressive and dangerous animals: so often in media we see herbivores = peaceful, carnivores = aggressive. But herbivores are absolutely capable to aggression and dangerous behavior - look at hippo attacks compared to lion attacks, for example.

"Standing still might be good because everyone else running away is a bigger distraction but i still wouldn't wanna try it" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

“We brought in Dr. David Hone. Spared no expense!”😂

This guy and Alan Grant would be great friends, as Alan considers (rightfully) that the dinosaurs Ingen made are just genetic atrocities rather than actual dinosaurs

We always have the one line Wu said, “you didn’t ask for reality you asked for more teeth!”

4:55 so right before this clip you can see the paleontologist raise his hands upwards before it cuts. What he more than likely was going to mention was the resting position of the arms of all theropod dinosaurs. Dinosaurs couldn’t rotate their wrists downwards because their muscle structure wouldn’t allow them to do so. The neutral position for dinosaurs hands is actually facing each other, think, “Dinosaurs could shake hands but couldn’t wave goodbye.” From Dr. James Napoli. Funnily enough some dinosaurs could point their palms facing up towards the sky but not reverse. My backing on this is I’m a certified paleobiolgist from the AMNH and the University of Alberta Canada

There's a convenient plot cover in Micheal Crichton's novels, and the resulting movies.
The DNA labs not only combined the dinosaurs with other reptiles and amphibians, but also tailor made them to be more commercially viable.
So, they were never meant to be "accurate" dinosaurs, but meant to look like what a tourist would want dinosaurs to be. A nuance that plays out in interesting ways, especially in the second book.
I miss Micheal Crichton.

Talks about the unrealistic dinosaurs but completely skips the spinosaurus which is the most controversial 😭🤣

@yoinkhaha 1 year ago

The idea that a Tyrannosaurus is going to out-stamina its prey… is terrifying. Some Michael Myers type ish

@Howlingburd19 1 year ago

One of the things I always liked about the very first Jurassic Park is that the dinosaurs actually feel like animals rather than sinister evil creatures :P
