I have to say that Kevin's sense of humour, realism and empathy makes Grand Designs really work. Without him, the show wouldn't have been and continues to be so successful.

Grand Designs is always as much about the people as it is about the buildings, so this was a fascinating one. I had to question why, if you wanted a sleek, industrial aesthetic you would buy a barn, but happily I think the 'compromises' have resulted in a much nicer, warmer, characterful building than perhaps would've been built had they another £100,000 or so to throw at it; the roof being the best example - so much better for being a textured patchwork, than a fresh-out-of-the-box monotonous expanse. The finished home is lovely.

A lesson learned is to make sure you have all the right permissions, have enough money to fund your dream and don't build things you don't need right away, that you can build in the future.

Ironically the roof is an expression of the intertwining of Sarah and Pip - the silver, black and ginger somehow is a fashion statement of their hair, planted on the tiles, and the interlacing of the mismatches somehow represents the interlacing of their heads through the process. lovely.

Watched the First episode of GD and still watching. Love Kevin and the mad nut's who build their own. But I can testify that, having done this on my own it's not for the faint hearted. From Ireland 🇮🇪

I really like it but I couldn’t help thinking of Triggers broom when I saw the finished building. After all the years GD has been on, it never fails to amaze me how many people still try to do things themselves to save money then end up spending a fortune anyway but with 10x the hassle.
