Love the ingenuity displayed here carrying extra luggage, but three days of clothes, beachwear, and toiletries, (plus tools) is enough for me to carry, and hotels and motels give me a better chance to get refreshed for another day of riding. Camping is a young man's game, and knowing when to retire from it is a choice best made before you're shivering in a cold, wet tent.

Great show.

Hey Dave🤠,
Again thanks for the shout. Joel at Kipmoto has been building these Sherpax trailers for quite a few years. I believe I have the second version. It’s definitely a quality product.
However, Just like with any fabricated device you add to your Mini moto, there’s a learning curve. With a single wheel trailer, being pulled by a 9hp small framed, small wheeled, motorbike, Creative packing plays a major part. Weight distribution is honestly the major concern.
When I went on my camping trip, I had the packing just right. On the way home, I tried something different which completely changed the handling of the bike and caused the front wheel to be light and squirrely on take off.
There are still some modifications needed that I just haven’t gotten around to just because life and other YouTube content got in the way but intend to see those through this spring.
A fender, taillight, and side boxes for the trailer are being planned as we speak..
Again, thanks for the shout, I like what you’re doing here on Mondays. First time I’ve looked forward to a Monday for as long as I can remember..

To answer your question at 3:01 - Is it a bobber? Yes and no. The fenders are removed, so by definition it qualifies as a bobber to some. That said, a lot of bobber purists would argue it should have a cut (bobbed) fender, and be hard-tailed or have a visibly modified frame, some would also counter that argument and say that makes it a chopper (chopped frame). It doesn't really follow the slammed frame lines of most bobbers. Personally, I would say no, it's not a traditional bobber- but I wouldn't argue with anyone about it, either. This is really its own custom category. Stylistically it’s closer to a Bratstyle build, although it’s probably the first Brat I’ve ever seen with a sidecar. I do like it, but Brats are my favorite kind of bikes.

Industrial moto had some issues with their side cars. If you ever listen to the "motorcycles and misfits podcast" Liza had one made for her Benelli 135 from them and there were some serious safety concerns with it.

I wound up using a single wheel bicycle trailer on my CT70 clone (Icebear Champion)
The lower shock bolts are the same as the axle nuts that the trailer mounts to.
It worked great even on trails, with 60lbs on it all the way to 57mph.
I shared a pic to you on insta with the trailer hooked to my Panda Trail Rider (total CT70 clone)

@IAMSatisfied 8 months ago

Your hitch should be at the same height or slightly lower than your rear axle... if you go above that height, then you're creating a lever that lifts the front wheel, reducing control & handling.

Use ball joints to mount a sidecar to a bike.
You just need a bolt welded to your bike to thread the ball joint on so it bolts to your sidecars frame.
Or flip the ball joint end towards the bike and have a hole to bolt into.
Same thing to a trailer. You can use a ball joint as your connection.
Say off the Axle like a nut.
Or off a threaded bar.

Sidecars are not the most ideal. They are hard to get used to and of course are wide. Trailers are better in my opinion but I'm not using one. You have to keep the weight down low or every time you lean over it's going to try to take you with it.

@Adv-caveman 8 months ago

I have a proper R100/velorex rig. There is some big issues with using minimotos for tugs. A cradle frame is easier to get the mounts in the right places. There needs to be adjustments for lean out, wheel lead and toe in for a decent ride. And multiple links in case one breaks.

The leaner rigs are mounted so the sidecar steers with the bike

sit on your bike and ask someone to push sideways on the top of the bike, then ask to push on the lower part, then you decide where you want your trailer to hook up.

I'm building a side car from old exercise equipment and a gorilla cart.

That way my son can take his kids for a ride on the mini bike.
But I'm also building a micro mini bike.
I'll post it up after I'm done.

@janrei9448 8 months ago

there alot of sidecar in the Philippines and many different design

@Vincent-l3v2f 8 months ago

I built a unison sidecar rig. The whole sidecar leaned with the bike, no relearning how to ride. Took my grandson on a 1600 mile ride with it.

There is or was a guy who started making and selling side cars, because of using his Ruckus at Disney

Hey dave i have. A trailer made in the 1940 's. ( i think ) with 2 wheels and high mount for a cushman scooter i was going to put it on one of my eagles with a rack but i turned 80 years old and i was only 38 when i bought it , time flys.

@Vincent-l3v2f 8 months ago

Bad idea to attach a trailer to a swingarm

@armadilllo 4 months ago (edited)

🤣2 grand for a one wheel bike trailer? My neighbor just offered me his 12' aluminum enclosed trailer for $300 then changed his mind and gave it to me for free. Not that I even want one but the most I'd pay for a bike trailer is $200. If I ever need a trailer for a motorcycle I'm just taking my truck.
