Do I like that one of my designs was copied? No. But this set is at least 10 years old, so at this point I'm not really bothered by it.

I actually like the colors. But the way they rounded the shape and made it thicker reminds me of baby toys.

For that tool that looks like tweezers, it is for automotive door locks, you use them to hold the little flap to expose the keyway and use as a tension wrench.

WoW!! I've can't believe how low some people will go!!  I'm lucky enough to have a Ratyoke pick and I can tell you its more of a piece of art than its intended function.
From the material selection to pattern design to final polish.. all done with the highest level of skilled craftsmanship.. and all done by just one person!
This is a spineless company.. disrespectfully stealing from others.. and now trying to pick your wallet !

I feel for Ratyoke.  I am also not surprised.  Ideas are hard to protect, especially when money gets involved and borders are crossed.

There's similar friction in the fountain pen community with regards to certain manufacturers making pens that are - let's call them - highly-accurate tributes to the designs of other manufacturers. It sometimes results in some shenanigins when there's unusual laws in certain areas e.g. Kaweco did something exotic with the law in Germany because there's chinese manufacturers who sell pens "inspired" by the various versions of the Kaweco Sport.

It ultimately comes down to the fact that you can't really copyright something that's either composed of basics geometrics or can only really be one particular shape. an ambidextrous rifle stock will only ever really come out one shape, give or take some extras like adjustability and whatnot. An 'ergonomic' item intended to be held in the hand in a certain direction will tend towards one particular shape. Barring some really weird stuff, like the pen I once saw that was scaffolding of carbon rods with the 'guts' of the pen suspended in the middle, a fountain pen again - comes out basically the same shape every time. Section, Body, Cap.

There's a reason everything has a logo on it nowadays - Disney can't come after you for making generic earbands with big round black ears on them, but if you happen to put their logo on it as well, you'll have a bad time.


I don't like it, but them's the breaks as things currently stand.

The grey and purple-handled picks, I've always heard referred to as 'flag' picks for use in dimple locks. If I remember correctly, BosnianBill used a half ball pick as a substitute to pick a dimple lock in one or two videos.

I remember when Ratyoke first put out pictures of those handles - absolutely love the aesthetics, never had the pleasure of feeling them though.

I used the mystery pick for opening some warded locks. Yuletide wishes!!!

1. You know you are onto something when the Chinese copy you.
2. In cases like this, it's unlikely that the original creator will be significantly impacted.  The community is small and well informed, and often take their business to the real source.
3. Those are the ugliest handles I have seen on picks yet.  I wouldn't buy them from any source. 😄

I like the larger handles, but im not a fan of the plastic or the colours. They look a bit like cheap toothbrushes.🤭

I once thought the wide tip profiles of grey and purples ones are 'standard' ones. I'm Chinese and every pick set have them, and they surely make it easier for complete beginners to locate and feel the pins. I was only using one particular pick like this from a HONEST pick set all the time, after finally breaking it I made a switch so I guess thats why they're there.
