funny how of the three characters with no grounded overheads one has a fast overhead special, another has a spell that is amazing at opening up downbacking and the last is too busy chipping you to death to remember what mixups are
2:21 To note, Terumi (on the right) has agonizing fang, a special move that’s meant to be his overhead.
Nine (on the left) has a special move that’s a full screen tracking overhead. She also sets up unblockables, apparently.
Amane (in the middle) has only one overhead in his entire kit, but compensates for this by having moves that do 30% on block and I’m not kidding. If you don’t use barrier, you explode.
Little fun fact: If you guard break someone with your Crush Trigger (or any move that breaks guard like Arakune C bug for example) and then grab them, the throw becomes completely untechable.
BlazBlue easily has my favorite throw system of any fighting game. Most other games have throws that are either incredibly annoying or incredibly underwhelming, with barely any inbetween. BlazBlue is the only game for me I've played that actually hits that sweetspot.
an egregious air throw hit box? well they did make guilty gear, so that checks
also this reminds me of this one jiyuna tweet where if he was playing offline and he was comboing someone and he saw them scratch their nose or whatever, he'd reset into a purple throw i thought that was really funny
I absolutely love the way throws work in BlazBlue. It feels like most fighting games don't want you to be patient on defense, but BB and UNI kind of do, which is why they're still my favorite series.
(Although 2XKO has been creeping up into UNI territory.)
I need purple throw in more games, not just because it's egregiously funny, but because I think it genuinely helps with the on-boarding process of learning a new fighting game and making slightly mistimed throws less punishing in general
Just as a note, barrier is specifically holding A+B while blocking. Of course, it has priority over other inputs which is why the OS works, so you can hold C and/or D while barrier blocking, but you MUST be holding both A and B.
Fun fact: this means that if Arakune has curse and doesn't have burst available he can mash 1/4+ABCD to safely summon curse bugs during blockstring gaps because all that he'll be doing is mashing barrier
(Good work on the vid though fr. Blazblue having tons of combo throws is sick....even if I do have such lethargic reaction time that I rarely ever tech even purple throws lol)
