Santana’s Abraxas was one of my favorite albums when I was 20 years old.  Wow. Rock n’ Roll era music with a Latino flavor.

You might not know the name Gregg Rolie, but you definitely know his music. Not only did he sing “Black Magic Woman,” “Evil Ways,” “Oye Como Va,” and all the other early Santana classics as the group's original lead vocalist, but he went on to form Journey with Santana guitarist Neal Schon.  Gregg Rolie sings "Black Magic Woman" and many Santana songs.

To get the full experience and really feel their power, you need to SEE Santana, not just hear them, and that means watching them do the song "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock in 1969. They were barely in their 20's, playing in front of half a million people who didn't know who they were, but would never forget. That performance made them famous.

Santana's drummer Michael Shrieve was just a mere teenager at this point, but already a beast of a drummer! 👌

Santana was one of the first to fuse Latin rock back in woodstock

Santana took an already great piece of music and perfected it.

If you were born in the 50’s or 60’s this album, Abraxas, was a permanent part of your vinyl album collection.  Genius at every level on this album. 🔥🎸

Another band I was fortunate enough to see live!

Listening to this song and seeing Bob Marley in the background reminds me that they were huge fans of each other. Two of the hardest working musicians in the business! The fusion of rock and Latin music made this song an instant classic.🎶🎸🏝️

I knew my husband back in the late 60's, he went into the military in '69 and I didn't see him again till 2010 when we reconnected on Facebook. Anyway when he told me how many bands he'd seen in 40 years I was stunned! He saw Santana at least 8 times in our hometown of Chicago! Now living outside of Houston they're slotted to perform this year! We'll be there!! That's Greg Rolie, the organ/piano player who handled all the vocals till he and the guitar player, Neal Schon created the band Journey. Eventually Greg left Journey and went solo but they all reunited (as many of the original band that was left) that sold out in Vegas about 10 years ago or so.

Fleetwood Mac did this song in blues style. Santana used Latin American rhythms which is why it feels more danceable.

The great bands of this era weren't afraid to let their music simmer together in a long intro before they really started cooking.

That’s Gregg Rolie on the keyboards and vocals. Later formed Journey with Neil Schon.

My boyfriend, Frankie Santana (I kid you not) turned me on to Santana on a jukebox in a bar in Brooklyn, 1970, and how I danced. Huge fan ever since.

Santana is so much better live, check that stuff out!

Great  cover. Respect for not bypassing the original.

The introduction of the song, which was adapted from jazz great Gabor Szabó's "Gypsy Queen", consists of simple hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides on the guitar and bass, before moving into the introductory guitar solo of "Black Magic Woman". On the album, Santana's cover of "Gypsy Queen" follows immediately after "Black Magic Woman." They chopped it off for the single. Gabor Szabó was a precursor of jazz-fusion guitar. He and Bobby Womack recorded Bobby's "Breezin'" first before George Benson did his hit cover of it.

The production is out of this world. Santana could turn Jingle Bells into a gem. His guitar playing is unique and his bands always supreme. Gold.

Must see video of Santana in Woodstock playing soul sacrifice. The percussion is out of control crazy crazy skills
