Whose favorite video is this still in 2024??

De Botton started the "School of Life" which publishes a huge number of "self help" and "how to" material, the very thing he absolutely writes-off in this video.

I've thought about the idea that we all need non-religious "churches" for the emotional well-being of people. Alain De Botton's videos are great!

The world needs more thinkers  such as Alain de Botton. Insightful, original, and able to target towards what's important in life. Thank you!

Dream a big dream M. de Botton

My daughter overdosed about a year ago. I'm not saying a class in school and she would still be alive but it might have helped her.  It wouldn't have hurt.

Love his ideas! Absolutely eloquently put forward, and they're both charming and valid. I'm a Christian, and a lot of his ideas still resound true alongside my beliefs.

Alain was the first one who opened my eyes and got me to think differently. I can now acknowledge the anxieties that come with life and steer away from useless ideas implanted by religion and media. It is not and easy process... but thank you for inciting change and promoting our need for emotional intelligence !

What a brilliant man! im so glad i've found him! and thank you for sharing this lecture!

The fact that they are mortal.. you hit a nerve right there. Thank you for this inspiring talk.

Philosophical Mass Media Station - a great idea! Ideas as these are sure to change the world as we know it today!!!

We need each other - now more then ever !

Awesome! Really grateful for such a video. As someone commented, the world really needs more thinkers like this man.
Keep it up!

I just came across three of your video's and I think you are very entertaining. Dawkins knows now that God lives. People lie when they do not feel safe, children included. Imho and experience. I have enjoyed your talks. Thank you.

I've been saying the same thing about changing our education system my entire adult life.

Wonderful!!! I'm a half-Academic because I studied 5 subjects to become a teacher. And while at University I always tried to convince my Professors and lecturers to discuss the beauty of it, the meaning of it, too that we shouldn't look at all these things so one-dimensionally. Why can't we work scientifically and absolutely dead-rationally, discuss stuff, write about stuff but THEN also indulge ourselves in the beauty of it, in the fascination we feel about the subject? Why is one aspect excluding the other? I don't get it! That's what I tried to tell these MEN (not many women out there)...and they just looked at me as if I were a hopeless, silly girl and said very disrespectful things. And if I wrote in my term papers only slightly like that (a little remakr after a paragraph or in the conclusion) they would mark me really badly....GOSH, that's why I really hate the academic world! That's why I'm a teacher because there BOTH is possible. But really, people, it's time for a change! And not only that but also the sophisticated language - it is a highly undemocratic thing. I hate the fact that a simple perseon (let's say a hairdresser) cannot profit from the education that is accessible at university or through books, because he or she simply cannot understand the language. STUPID!

Can Alain fuel Netflix with some proper programming, par example?!

Thanks for the best ideas I have ever heard dear Mr.Botton, if you , also do the most important implementation which is working on P4C . To help to change the world for better.

A very outstanding talk, i will remember this...

Alain,  he's so wise.. I want join him, eagerly sincerely...
