Only the sound of car running. Please enjoy to play your favorite music in the background while watching. Summer in Kyoto is wonderful, isn't it? In this video, I used a GoPro 12 to capture a drive that starts at To-ji Temple, passes by Nishi Hongan-ji and Higashi Hongan-ji temples, traverses the Daini Keihan Road (a major bypass route between Kyoto and Osaka), runs through the Hanshin Expressway network crisscrossing Osaka City, and ends at Kaigandori in Minato Ward—home to the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, one of the world's largest aquariums.

After merging onto the Daini Keihan Road from the Kamogawa-Nishi Interchange in Kyoto City and driving south for about five minutes, you come upon a vast expanse of farmland. It makes you wonder why such a large area—located so close to the city and seemingly well-situated for access—remains undeveloped rather than being turned into a residential district. This area was once known for "Ogura-ike" (Ogura Pond), a massive body of water that was drained during a reclamation project in the early Showa era; nowadays, such a public works project likely wouldn't even get off the ground due to environmental assessments and other concerns. Seeing such a vast tract of land remain as fields makes one feel a sense of incongruity and speculate about what might have prevented its development. I don't know if it was ever seriously proposed, but it might have been interesting to utilize this space as a "Kyoto Airport." Recently, there have been proposals to use the site as a depot for the Hokuriku Shinkansen, but since there are also plans to relocate the proposed Hokuriku Shinkansen Kyoto Station further west, that idea might end up being scrapped as well.

The footage is essentially uncut, though I have edited out stops at traffic lights and the like.
