Why does Jávea have two names, and why does this part of the Costa Blanca remind me of Italy?

Jávea, also known as Xàbia, lies between Alicante and Valencia on Spain's Costa Blanca, and offers a very different experience from the bigger tourist destinations around Benidorm.

I'll take you around the main beach, the port and some of the dramatic coastline, while sharing what I liked, what I didn't, and what I found most interesting along the way.
