From 1997 to 2024, he taught courses in the history of religion, philosophy, and modern art at the University of the Arts (Philadelphia), where he was awarded the President's Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2010. He also taught at the University of Pennsylvania.

From 2016 to 2023, he taught philosophy and theology of the Bahá'í Faith at the Wilmette Institute (Illinois), where he chaired the Department of Religion, Philosophy, and Theology from 2017 to 2021. He studies artificial intelligence.
