On December 13, 2006, Danelle Ballengee loaded Taz—her wiry, golden-red rescue dog into her truck with the plan to run on the Amasa Back Trail near Canyonlands National Park.   They arrived at the trial, and she and Taz started running with no idea of the disaster looming. Her feet slipped near a cliff, and then she fell 60 feet below, shattering her pelvis, unable to walk.  This was the start of an ordeal that would bring her to the brink of death.
