I could watch this gentleman do a 10 minute tutorial on how to fold the tip of the toilette paper roll and I would still be fascinated.

"These are my cartridges. I can do what I want with them."
Spoken like a true Texan.

8 bit guy when anything's tough you turn to alcohol

5:11 "I just have a few things to say about that"
Me: o shoot he's pissed

"They're mine."

All that needs to be said.

For future reference on the Avery labels. You grabbed the Inkjet version, you need the laserjet version since you used a laser printer, otherwise they get screwed up like they did in the video.

" Ultimately, what it boils down to is that THESE are my cartridges. I can do whatever I want to with them. I can roll them over with a steam-roller if I want. "

The ultimate roast to both sides of the chicken

I watch fine art restoration videos too, and he’s addressed that “don’t touch them, let them look ‘old’!” mentality as well. His thoughts (and mine) are that by removing the ravages of time and making the piece look like the artist - or maker - originally intended is the best way to honor the piece. A well restored item can last another 100 years, and so on, which helps preserve history. Plus items that look well cared for are usually going to KEEP being well cared for.

As a vintage video game collector, I couldn't believe you....

...couldn't paint a photo-realistic illustration of Hulk Hogan. Teehee!

8:22 You broke all the rules in the label...

Did anyone else Google to see if Hulk Hogan has a belly button? I still couldn’t find definitive proof.

I never understood the whole "you shouldn't mess with it!" argument. I completely agree with you, it's mine I want it to look nice.

I bought an old singer sewing machine. Stripped off the old worn out japanning, filed down the casting, bondo, sanded it glass smooth and had an autobody shop paint it. They only charged me $20, and they just happened to be doing a candy-apple red job.

According to the collectors I "destroyed" it. It's mine and I want it to look nice. Yeah the machine is 120 years old. By the time someone who cares gets ahold of it again, it will be another 80 years old and I will be dead.

As somebody familiar with the ethics of conserving and restoring historical artifacts, I can say that from a historians point of view, you are doing nothing wrong. The most important thing in restoration is documentation, which you do meticulously in these video's. So all the information about the objects earlier state is preserved which is the main goal.

That font for the Activision cartridge is plain ol' Futura, so that could've saved you some effort :D

I don't know why people would complain about him restoring the cartridges. I mean, it's already in pretty bad shape, there's very little value in collecting them in this state even IF they were originals.
and you know, those paintings and sculptures that are 500+ years old all went through different levels of restoration, and it's still worth keeping.

If anything he's doing one of the best jobs out there restoring, if not the best. At least if one day, all other copies of those 2 games are destroyed, there's still these 2 that are closest to the original( which in my books, close to 100%)

better something left than nothing.

Looks great!
I see one difference. The Pitfall logo on the new label doesn't have a trademark symbol at the right.

People that complain about your restoration videos fail to distinguish the differences between restoration, preservation, and conservation.  You are doing genuine restoration, which is about appearance and function.  Preservation and conservation are more about keeping original materials intact even to the point of losing functionality.  You ain't no museum!  I think your analogy to classic car restoration is particularly apt.  I love your learning process!

Who would not notice the seam of the overlapping clear sticky tape on close inspection?

5:48 "These are my cartridges. I can do whatever I want to with them"

8:04~ "Since I've removed the labels...", +Squints at cartridge shown on screen+....Oh really now? ;3
