Wow. I knew about the depression, but I had no idea about the punch and head injury that led to his issues. That explains a lot. It's a very sad story indeed.

It's sad that one punch from an angry taxi driver changed everything for one man, his family and friends, his band, and his fans.

Was a massive fan in the early 90's. Didn't know anything about the accident and brain damage until watching this. Wow. Cool guy. Great loss.

Paula Yates was toxic. She was the worst thing to happen to Michael. She hurt him in life and death; saying he died of auto-erotic asphyxiation added a sick, perverted twist to his death. If he had stayed with Helena and disclosed his injury, he would be alive today.😔

My first concert was INXS in 1988, that set the bar pretty high.

As an Aussie who's teenage years were in the 80's, the music of INXS was a real part of me growing up and it was a very sad day when Michael Hutchence died so tragically.

We never got the name of the cab driver who destroyed the life of man that meant so much to the world. That person knows who they are.

Funny thing that Shabooh Shoobah (1982/3) wasn't mentioned, as it was their breakout instead of "The Swing". "The One Thing" and "Don't Change" were pretty big in Oz, and did some good stuff on American college radio (The One Thing even made the top 40, and was a co-runner with Men At Work for Oz music).

The story is about Hutchence, but the bigger tragedy is that it damaged his daughter equally. Paul Yates became a heroine addict, and any sense of motherhood went with her. She overdosed and died, and she left 4 young children without a mother, and poor Michael's child without a mother or a father. Geldof stepped, but it isn't the same. And the tragedy ended up taking their daughter from an overdose as well. Don't let anyone con you into believing that being a rock star is glamorous..

My big brothers loved INXS.
Michael was one of a kind.

INXS were such a big part of my youth, as an Aussie teen in the 80’s. Their album Kick was played at every party in my senior high school year. It was so sad to watch the tragic story of Michael unfold.

Gen X here, grew up listening to INXS during the 80's. I knew about his depression but never knew the reason for it. I really hope that taxi driver's karma caught up to him.

Met Michael once (Kylie at his elbow). He's not tall at all. Shared a doob (Kylie didn't partake) and the party got raided just after they left. Qiuite a night.

I remember being 4 years old and jumping on the bed trying to be like him when the New Sensation video would air. He just seemed so... cool, where even as a little kid, I wanted to be him when I grew up. My mother would play the Kick tape, beginning to end, over and over again, like crazy.

Hearing about his passing absolutely demolished me. Especially when they were saying that he did it himself. Not to sound drastic, but it was one of those moments when it seemed like the world just got a little less bright. The guy was my childhood hero and then he was gone.

Omg I hadn't heard of that devastating injury. How terrible

Thank you for bringing more attention to MH traumatic brain injury. Most sources to this day mention his life's choices post 1992 and attribute that to the same old script of stardom and struggle. It's so sad that MH was assaulted and the accused fled the scene. MH was a beautiful soul and a very sensual person and this injury denied him basic sensory perceptions. He was in a very happy relationship at the time which eventually ended due to his personality changes as a result of the brain trauma. He was truly helpless and lacked rehabilitation 😢💔
