It has been sixty-one years since the landmark science-fiction series titled Lost in Space first debuted on the CBS network in September 1965. Created and produced by Irwin Allen through 20th Century Fox Television, this historic program offered an imaginative chronicle of space exploration. Following the pioneering Robinson family, pilot Major Don West, and the scheming Dr. Zachary Smith aboard the Jupiter 2 spaceship as sabotage sends them off course into deep space, the multi-season series became an enduring pop-culture phenomenon of nineteen-sixties television. Filmed at 20th Century Fox Studios in Los Angeles, California, United States of America, the show was celebrated for its visual effects, campy humor, and iconic B-9 Robot. Looking back from September 2026, the sweeping legacy of this sci-fi classic remains deeply cherished, though time has taken a substantial toll on the Jupiter 2 crew.
Several key cast members survive in September 2026, continuing to represent the young Robinson pioneers across generations. The living cast is also represented by Charles William Mumy Jr., celebrated under his professional name Bill Mumy, who masterfully portrayed child prodigy Will Robinson; at seventy-two years old in September 2026, he continues an active career as an actor, musician, and author.
