37:33 she didn’t just “happen to say Turner” for no reason, though. The house maid told Elizabeth that the pirates were after the Governors daughter, and so she lied about her name to avoid being held ransom. This is a ridiculously well thought-out movie.

Editing out "but you HAVE heard of me" is criminal. Lmfao.

FUN FACT: Jack Sparrow has permanent "Sea Legs." When he's on land, he walks with a noticeable sway - appearing 'drunk' but when he's on board a ship, he walks perfectly straight. Just one of the many things that set Jack Sparrow apart and allow him to steal the show. He is THE Jack Sparrow, hands down.

Jack Sparrow's intro in this movie is near perfect, in my opinion. No dialog, but you learn so much about the character. How he sees himself, the reality of his situation, his love for being a pirate, his illusions of grandeur... it's excellent.

The upsidedown boat underwater does work. Hold a cup upside down in water and you'll see it holds an air pocket until you turn it back up. The unbelievable part about it is being able to hold the boat under water.

Hans Zimmer hated the idea of doing a Pirates movie at first and when they showed him an early first cut of the film he immediately changed his tune and went on and created one of the best film scores ever! :)

Jack Sparrow became a pirate after he took a job to transport slaves and he freed them all. "people aint cargo."

IMHO Johnny Depp should have won his Oscar nomination for this film.

I think Commodore Norrington is actually a pretty chill dude, all things considered

It really is impossible to not have an insane crush on Keira Knightley in these movies. Especially if you were a kid when these movies came out like I was.

The funny thing is that the whole character of Jack Sparrow was Depp's brainchild. He was given free rein by director Gore Verbinski to basically do whatever he wanted with the character, but Disney was TERRIFIED when they saw dailies of his performance and panickedly tried to get him to change his portrayal of Sparrow. Verbinski managed to calm their fears, and Depp ended up getting an Oscar nomination for the role, turning Jack Sparrow into an iconic character and the thing people best remember of this series.

The Pirates of the Caribbean movies are a masterclass in character introduction

There are many things I love about the pirates franchise and one of them is that Jack is smarter than people give him credit for. Not only in this movie but across all of them. It's a very subtle detail.

They were mopping the lower deck "floor" with tar to seal the seams and cracks in the ship to prevent leaks.

4:30 is actually not a painting. That's the scenery

@funkyguyhere 1 year ago

i love Norrington so much, he was literally just doing his job the whole movie 😭 and as he proved in the end he's really a great guy

It’s kind of understated how good of a team Will and Jack are just as a duo.

@michaelklaus 1 year ago

1:03:20 I like how Jack isn't even trying to grab the sword Will has thrown. He remembers from the last time that he won't be able to pull that out.

The boat trick is actually how it works. There is air pressure in the hollow of the boat, and it's that air that keeps the water out. Research "Bell diving." Pirates used bells to dive.
