The same problem over here in the UK, a shortage of truck parking and long antisocial hours, most of this long haul trucking in countries like the UK and Japan are unnecessary due to their small land area and it would be better just swapping loads at the halfway point known as trunking in the UK, this fully utilises the truck which can run continuously and the driver gets to go home every night

The same problem exists in Brazil; the company wants you to arrive as quickly as possible and then makes you wait as if the truck were a warehouse, always demanding more and more.

I am working in logistics (office, all departments) for around 17 years or so now here in Germany and it's crazy and kind of awesome to see that even at the other side of the world things aren't so different after all

I was a truck driver in Tokyo in the early 80's. It was just in the city driving. It was a fun job that I really enjoyed doing. My Dad didn't like the idea of me being a truck driver and I ended up quitting the job and going to college. Good memories though.

Same problem in the states no parking. Government wants to make rules but no solution for rest breaks.

As  a Driver in the US we routinely work half days. 12 hours is a half day.

I have much respect for truck drivers. Long haulers or local. I always give them room so they can turn and stay out their way whenever possible.😊

It would seem like working conditions for truck drivers all over the world is a reason why there is a shortage of drivers

I'm a driver in the US and I work 14 hours a day and drive between 10:00 and 11:00 hours. It's a hard hard job, but I love it it. I deliver to a major chain of department stores and grocery stores

Same issues in europe. I’m a long haul driver through all the EU countries, after 4-5 PM every day, you can barely find any parking places where you can have your daily rest safely.
We run on 9 hours of driving time a day, which can be extended to 10 hours a day, twice a week, with 45 minutes of mandatory break every 4h30min at the max. Every day, we have a mandatory 11 hours of break, that can be reduced to 9 hours three times a week, depending on the schedule of your pick ups/deliveries. And every week, a mandatory 45h break, usually taken on the weekends, since a lot of countries have truck bans on saturdays and sundays.
Most of us (including me) are away from home up to 4 weeks at a time and 1 week of break after those 4 weeks.
So yeah, Japan is so far away from here and yet the same problems exist over there as well, I bet the same goes in the whole world in this industry.

Holy crap!! Thanks for the video / education. I’m in the USA & comparing the two systems, they COULD NOT be more different. Just crazy strict over there. I hope those drivers are paid by the hour & not by the mile or kilometer.

Driving truck in the Canadian Oilfield , we work under an exemption.  Regularly work 60 hours a week.  Insanely tiring.

Checking in from Canada. We are allowed a 13 hour driving window but it must be completed in 16 from the time your day starts. I've also worked with carriers that run into the USA, then it better to stick to their hours off service rules so as not to get messed up. I've been to Thailand and Vietnam and Japan is on the bucket list. Stay safe out there drivers.

Was interesting that 2 out if 3 times you referred to “southern” Japan; once to same as “western. “Southern” feels like gaijinspeak - as I usually do.

Well a quick summary of our regulations and stats for us American long haul truckers (myself, 31 years and counting) old vs new regs. Old regs were 70 hours in an 8 day window. Same today. Then we had 24 hours to drive ten hours sleep 8 hours and “work” like dock time was up to 5 hours so 15 working hours but an 18 hour day if just driving with no dock time. Current rules. Day starts as the following timers simultaneously count down. 14 hours in which you can drive up to 11 but a 30 minute break must occur within 8 hours of starting or less but no segment longer than 8.

Average weekly miles around 3,500-4,000 miles a week. 3,500x1.6=5,600 km to around 4000x1.6=6,400 km a week. At .62 a mile,about 3700x0.62=2,294 a week every Friday or about  367,256.56 yen every Friday at 160 yen per dollar.

Size and weight varies, but 22.86 meters long which includes articulated trailer of 53 feet or 16.15 meters long. 2.59 meters wide, 4.11 meters tall and gross wight of 80,000 pounds at 36287.39 kg weight. Top speeds range from carrier governed speeds of 104kph to state limits of 120kph or 128kph.

So how do those stats compare yo your country or Japan?

My normal day in Australia driving a B-double is 940ks and this is not as far as many  drivers cover.  we operate on a basic fatigue management book. This gives us the ability to drive 14hours in a 24 hour period. Our fines for breaking the rules are about to increase too in many cases as high as $26,610 aud. A lot of long distance drivers get paid an amount per kilometre. Love to see other drivers experiences around the world and respect is always given to those drivers in the industry. Every run has its challenges and if you can operate safely on a daily basis you are succeeding. Well done.
