Fascinating history and journey. Amazingly talented film crew. After filming, Tarrant took a long-haul flight from Bangkok to London on 1 March 2014. He had a stroke about 2 hr before reaching London, attributed to a clot in a leg. It took 6 months of physiotherapy to recover.

We travelled to Thailand ,many years ago and my husband wanted to visit Kanchanaburi, and after we went to the cemetery. It is shocking, sad , so much horror and suffering .

Awesome train journey

A truly amazing adventure some beautiful people and countryside. The suffering and sacrifices of those who built the railways should always be recognized and remembered. I found it interesting that a Japanese steam locomotive still exists on static display. It's very rare. The only other I know of is in Japan. I think most of them have been scraped long ago.

went to Kanchanaburi and saw the ww2 attraction, lovely but very sad 😔

What the Japanese and Germans done during ww2 should never be forgotten and we should never stop teaching children about the history of that time .

The Kanchanaburi bridge had nothing to do with the Bridge of the book or the movie. That bridge was built over the Kware Noi near the Three Pagodas Pass and was actually based on a real wooden bridge. 600 POWs died during constuction of that bridge which was about 100 yards long. The camp was called Songkurai and was known as the worst camp on the Death Railway.

On a Top Gear special I think James may said that the river is called the river Kock Rather than the river kwai. 😮 Did Kipling really talk like that. 😂

I saw bridge on the river Kwai on FMC

I thought the author based the book on the bridge at Tamarkan, not Kanchanaburi.

29:06 "It stands today"? Stands? Looks like it's laying down to me. Maybe if I tilt my head....yes, that's better.

Rudyard Kipling's works are only truly read out loud by a Brit. Gunga Din is my favorite.

Now they have an earthquake in common—alas.

He glosses over Hellfire Pass, it is a 2 second clip.

@jafo766 1 year ago

Maybe China will refurbish that Railway for them, that would be a GREAT THING !

LMAO i'm a Locomotive engr in Canada retired i'm surprised you were still on the track much less apparently no broken rails or equipment unless you didn't show those parts. At the very least it should have been under a slow order for that section of track lol.
