Starting my journey tomorrow by reading short stories in Portuguese, and I work with about 80 Azorean people. I've been around them for 14 years, but never tried to learn. Now is the time. Wish me luck!

I subscribed to Fubo TV and added the Portuguese channels. I listen to them most days.

Thanks for these tips! I have been trying for years (not consistently, obviously) and know a fair amount but can't recall well and can't put sentences together well. I really want to try the Conversation Exchange. I also am trying to make a habit of watching the Portuguese news on TV and at least listening and translating the main headlines. I don't know enough yet to understand the spoken language, unless I catch a common phrase or pick out words here and there. I feel a bit hopeless about it honestly (I've taken the government A1 + A2 classes, group classes and even a couple private classes and still am terrible), but I know if I truly applied myself, I would at least get mildly conversational.

Your lessons have taught me so much. I just returned from a two-week stay in Portugal. I was told by the natives that my pronunciation was excellent. They would often immediately start speaking Portuguese to me, thinking I spoke fluently. I took it as a compliment. I will be returning in April of 2026 for 3-4 weeks. Following your suggestions and advice, I will be much more fluent. Many thanks for all of your help Liz. You rock! P.S. I am also going for my Portuguese citizenship. My grandparents were born there. Wish me luck.

Mudei a língua da minha página de Google para "Português". Também ajudou-me em aprender as palavras portuguesas pelas que já las sabia em inglês.
