1. Excellent grid based city design and making each small suburb (called sectors) fairly self sufficient and mixed use was brilliant. The city was so easy to navigate with lots of green spaces everywhere
2. Paint the damn concrete. Over time it just looks and feels cold and dirty. You need lots of greenery to offset the coldness of the concrete and even then when you’re inside it feels like a villain’s lair. I appreciate his practical open plan designs though.
Having that personal connection I’ve always had mixed feelings about him! But the fact that I got to grow up in an orderly, well planned and well designed city (still a rarity in India) is all thanks to him!
