This is an amazing piece; so much insight into Christopher Hitchens' personal thoughts and insecurities as well as to his personality which seems emotional and caring and deep.
Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex and more violent. It takes a great touch of genius and courage to move in the opposite direction, such man was Christopher Hitchens, an inspiration to us free thinkers everywhere, thank you Hitch.
What a joyous find this was. I'm a huge admirer of this man who I humbly consider to be the primest of all of us. What totally moved me was watching the pure joy as Hitch realises he's listening to Auden reciting On The Circuit. The love that Hitch shows is so touching pure and genuine. To have had such intelligence and get such pleasure from literature I can only dream of, guess I'm not alone. For Hitch to have had his love of life taken away so early was so cruel. He wouldn't want me to but I 'worship' and admire him in equal measure. A man whose ferocious intellect was matched by his courage. So missed. I do hope his family read the comments on YT and realise, if they didn't already, how much he will always be loved. Oh to have him back ....
Most of the videos on YouTube featuring Hitch are his interesting debates with religious dummies, which naturally stick to the topic. The topics in this interview were not so shackled, and his erudition, his ability to be interesting, and his principled stubbornness, all shone brightly. Delightful!
