I've always found it useful to straddle the top when bottoming - mainly because it gives you meaningful control on how the experience is going to go - or not, if you find it's not for you at that time.  I would say it's easier to control the top when they are their back, than when they are behind you.

I'm pretty thick and always try to get them to ride on it first to get used to it. I don't like being in a control position until they're loosened up and used to it. And I usually want to ride on theirs at first when I bottom.

You mentioned sexual trauma. Extreme shaming for being queer/gay can also make bottoming scary.

Mental work has had the biggest impact for me. Beyond trust and trauma, I've noticed that getting in the mood of really needing that eggplant in my peach means I need little warmup and it actually feels great instead of meh.

Never use store bought enemas to clean out. They have laxative chemicals in them and you DON'T was to pump laxatives in there. Plain, lukewarm water only!

I've been bottoming for a year now and it still feels uncomfortable I don't know what to do

I’m a 62 year old gay man. Ive bottomed a fair bit, but I just don’t find it pleasurable. At this late stage I’m still trying to work out if it’s me, or my partners who have the problem. Most of my partners have also been inexperienced at topping. Tbh it has been 45 years of feeling like a bit of a failure.
