* Start with warm water to open the hair cuticle.
* Apply a small (dime-sized) amount of base shampoo.
* Gently massage it into the scalp with your fingertips for about 1 minute (focus on the scalp, not the lengths).
* Rinse thoroughly.
* Repeat the shampoo step a second time — this second wash removes buildup without over-stripping.
* Let the shampoo rinse through the ends; do not aggressively wash the lengths.
2. Condition and detangle
* Apply conditioner only to the mid-lengths and ends (avoid the scalp).
* While the conditioner is in, use a detangling brush to carefully detangle the curls. Conditioner makes this safer and reduces breakage.
* Let the conditioner sit for at least 2 minutes.
* Rinse thoroughly with cold water. The cold rinse seals the cuticle, helping keep curls smooth and reducing frizz.
3. Put on your shirt/hoodie before styling
* Immediately after showering, put on your T-shirt (or hoodie/sweater if you plan to wear one).
* Do this before any styling. Putting clothes on afterward disturbs curl clumps and causes frizz.
* This single habit prevents the majority of frizz problems.
4. Apply leave-in conditioner on still-wet hair
* Make sure hair is still thoroughly wet. If it has started drying (common with thick hair after putting on a shirt), rewet it with a spray bottle.
* Apply base leave-in conditioner. Use a small amount for finer hair; use more for thick hair so it stays hydrated.
* Rake it through the entire head.
* Lean forward and pay extra attention to the top section (most frizz-prone) and the back (often neglected but highly visible to others).
* If you notice any frizzy sections while wet, combine a frizzy section with a non-frizzy one by gently merging them — wet frizz becomes dry frizz if left alone.
5. Apply gel or mousse for definition and hold
* Choose based on hair type:
* Fine curls → water-based mousse (definition + volume without weighing hair down).
* Thick curls (like the creator’s) → gel.
* Scrunch the product into the hair.
* Flip your head over and continue scrunching to build volume at the roots and avoid flat roots.
* Scrunch thoroughly until the product is fully distributed and your hands feel “worked.”
6. Remove excess water with a T-shirt (not a towel)
* Use an old cotton T-shirt instead of a regular towel. Towels rough up the hair shaft and create frizz; T-shirts gently absorb water without disrupting the curl pattern.
* Gently pat (do not rub) to reduce water weight.
* Lean forward and to the sides while patting, then flip back and pat again. This also helps create extra volume.
7. Set the middle part
* Before hair starts drying, flip all hair back.
* Use your fingers (not a comb) to create a natural-looking straight middle part down the center.
* Take your time — this determines the final shape.
* Avoid flattening the roots. If any strands lie flat, lift them up and give a final light scrunch (hold the opposite side so you don’t mess up the part).
* Repeat on both sides.
8. Lift the roots with a root pick
* Gently use a root pick (or similar tool) at the roots, focusing on the crown and front.
* This adds height and volume so the middle part “pops” and prevents flat roots.
* Be gentle to avoid disrupting the curl pattern.
9. Air-dry completely (no diffuser)
* Let hair air-dry fully. No diffuser is needed — it often complicates results.
* Do not touch the hair while it dries.
* Avoid letting hair touch a pillow, going outside in wind, or any disturbance that could cause frizz.
* A cast (slight crunch) will form as it dries — this is desired.
Final step: Break the cast with jojoba oil
* Once hair is 100% dry and crunchy, break the cast for soft, bouncy, shiny curls.
* Rub a small amount of jojoba oil between your palms.
* Lean forward/to the side/back and gently scrunch to break the cast.
* Separate curls lightly if needed, but avoid aggressive handling that adds frizz.
* Play with the hair until the crunch is gone and you like the final look. This unlocks maximum bounce, shine, and softness.
