After the Annexation of Korea by Japan, the descendants of Emperor Gojong were incorporated into the royal and princely families of the Japanese Imperial Household, receiving stipends of up to 2 million yen. The families of Yi Jae-myeon (Yi Hui) and Yi Gang (Prince Uichin) were incorporated into the princely family. There were a total of 26 members. The 1.5 million yen received by the Joseon royal family, which numbered fewer than ten at the beginning of the annexation, accounted for 44% of the annual organizational operating costs allocated to the Government-General of Korea. The royal and princely families remained affiliated with the Japanese Imperial Household until 1947, two years after liberation.
