Old Harry's Game — Series 1 | BBC Radio 4 Comedy — Hell's Never Been Funnier
Satan is having a crisis — not of conscience, but of patience. Welcome to Hell, where the Devil is less horned overlord and more exasperated middle manager.
Old Harry's Game introduces a surprisingly philosophical Satan, weary of humanity's endless talent for self-deception. When a recently deceased professor arrives — full of moral arguments and intellectual sparring — the Devil finds himself challenged in ways he never expected. Their debates, witty and biting and often wonderfully absurd, form the backbone of this sharp BBC Radio 4 comedy.
Written and performed by Andy Hamilton, the series blends theological satire with office-style dysfunction, staffed by bureaucrats, tormented souls, and a Devil who'd honestly rather not be dealing with any of this. Clever, dark, and endlessly quotable, it skewers everything from celebrity culture to historical hypocrisy — making eternal damnation oddly delightful.
About the Series:
Old Harry's Game ran from 1995 to 2012, spanning:
7 series of regular episodes
46 total episodes
Plus specials, including a two-part Christmas special (2002), festive episodes (2010), and a two-part Olympics special (2012)
Written and performed entirely by Andy Hamilton, its long run is a testament to just how sharp — and enduringly funny — this comedy really is.
🎙️ Preserving classic radio drama, one story at a time — Old Time Radio, Golden Age radio, BBC Radio dramas: murder, mystery, comedy, sci-fi & westerns.
