Walking through Otaru's historic city center in early evening as heavy rain falls in Hokkaido, Japan. We start by an old steam clock and walk down Sakaimachi Street, a shopping street with a bit of old time flavor, toward the iconic Otaru Canal and then meander back to the clock as rain intensifies. I actually hadn't planned on filming a walk in Otaru until the last minute. I had a ferry to catch back to Kyoto departing in the late evening and with rain forecast I thought it would be a good chance to take a quick look at the city. I'm glad I did. The gas lamps, steam clock, and brick buildings created a nice historic atmosphere, and the rain was impressive as well.
On a technical note, I realized just before hitting the record button that I needed to change the camera settings to avoid the lights flickering. In my haste I accidentally switched into manual focus, so there is a bit of "creative focus" for the first 10 minutes or so until I noticed and switched it back to autofocus.
This will most likely be my last walk from Hokkaido for this trip, though there will be a few outtakes and test walks over on Patreon if you're interested in more from the far north island.
