Soviet Gun Rejected, Reborn as Germany's Tank Killer

On the twenty-second of July, nineteen forty-two, a nineteen-year-old German private named Günter Halm kept firing a captured Soviet gun on Ruweisat Ridge in Egypt after a hit on his position wounded two of his crew. The British tank attack in front of him broke apart.

What you'll find inside:
The Soviet F-22 divisional gun was adopted on 11 May 1936, and only 2,932 were built before the Red Army dropped it in 1939.
A 1936 troop-trial report said: "Universal gun satisfies no single purpose."
German forces captured more than 1,200 F-22s in 1941-42. Hanomag rebored the chamber for a case about 28 inches long with 2.4 times the propellant.
In 1942 the converted gun fired 49,000 armor-piercing rounds, more than the new PaK 40's 42,430.
It armed about 202 Marder II and 344 Marder III tank destroyers, each carrying only 30 rounds.
