On Confession.
Father Konstantin Korepanov began his first talk at the Church on the Blood after the New Year with a discussion of confession. People's disillusionment with their spiritual lives is often expressed in the melancholy beginning of each confession: "I've come to say the same thing again, I have the same sins again." Why are we troubled by the weekly repetition of our sins in confession? What's wrong with our understanding of the meaning of confession? What is the connection between confession and the reception of the Holy Mysteries of Christ? Father Konstantin Korepanov addresses these and other questions in his new talk.

0:00 – Is it normal to recount the same sins in confession?

08:58 – What is confession, and what are the consequences of neglecting it? What is the connection between confession and Communion? Why do we receive Communion, and how does confession help us achieve this? 20:15 – Confession and Repentance. Are all Christians destined by God's Providence to lead a deep spiritual life? How can others be saved? The example of Anthony the Great and the Alexandrian shoemaker. It's not height that matters, but humility.
33:19 – At the Analogue. Two important things happen to us in confession if we have come to judge ourselves. First, we renounce sin, that is, we see our sin, hate it, and testify to God of this hatred. The second important thing is our renunciation of self-justification. If these two things happen to us, then we are repentant sinners.
41:09 – To avoid despair, we absolutely need faith that God came into the world to save sinners, that He came to sinners, not to the Pharisees. The God we believe in determines how we act in accordance with our faith. 55:08 – On crying during confession and the lack thereof.
57:37 – On general confession and our search for a spiritual father.
