"There Goes the Neighborhood" was the first song I ever heard from them. I was a Black girl living in Orange County, CA, skating up and down Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, all of it — hitting tiny venues, diving in and out of mosh pits like it was church. Too white for the Black kids, too Black for the white kids in the beach cities. When I tell you how vindicated I felt when Body Count came into my life… it was like someone finally said out loud everything I had been carrying alone.
I came to hear the Cop Killer performance that everyone's been talking about... then they started with Ozzy and I had to stay for the whole set. Fuck, I wish I wasn't broke. I haven't been able to take my son to a good metal concert in ages. He's 11 now and I can't remember the last time we went to something live. Love seeing all the people there with their kids! His daughter is adorable!
Man oh man this makes my blood boil as a 50 yr old ... I was a kid living in small town (200 people ) Australia when Cop Killer dropped. Nobody understood wtf was going on, they thought I'd lost my shit, but already as a fan of old school metal it made my young days even better. Playing CK before every surf, every moto session was the 💣
Makes me want to mount a PA system to my vehicle and play body count all over the neighborhood especially now!! Body count is a movement!!! Let’s gooo!!!
Body Count is so underrated. I remember when the "cop killer" album came out! It was rebellious and hard AF. Also they dont get enough credit for the riffs. "There goes the neighborhood" is still a fucking banger
that gig at the Whisky in '91 where they only played 2 songs and nearly 100 people got arrested. yep, I had a ticket to that. got there, couldn't get near the door. total chaos. I gave up and hung out across the street. then watched the madness unfold. boy I wish I had a smart phone back then.
