I install these in client homes every single week, and I still would not put one of them in my own house. Open showers, matte black everything, vessel sinks, pot fillers, cheap cabinets, giant tubs nobody uses, and the trends that look dated in a year. Here are 10 home features I would never install, what they really cost you, and where I would spend that renovation money instead. Function first, quality second, then make it beautiful. Watch before you renovate.

I worked a 20 year career in IT and I wouldn't consider smart appliances in my own home. One more huge downside you missed - you expect your brand new appliances to last 15-20 years at minimum, but the smart technology will be out of date in 3 years and be unsupported in 5-8. The apps and the servers will either be taken down or won't support your old hardware anymore and now you're stuck with smart features that don't work. Depending on what those features are that might be an inconvenience or it might turn your expensive appliance into a useless brick. (Do you need the app to turn it on and off?) It's just one more piece of planned obsolescence to force you to upgrade

Most important item in a shower is the Safety Hand Rail . If you’re gonna injure yourself in a home it’s in the shower where it’s wet slippery and you’re naked and there’s no soft surfaces to land on

Do i really need to connect my washer, dishwasher, toaster, refrigerator and stove to an app? HELL NO. And no to Pot fillers!

Less smart stuff the better in appliances. Dont need it. Agree

In the 60s, my carpenter grandpop put in solid birch kitchen cabinets.
In the 90s a later owner turned that antique house into a 1700s masterpiece.
Those cabinets are still there.

I live in the country and have pets. I love my vinyl flooring! It's beautiful, durable, feels great under foot, and cleans like a dream

the day my friend got stuck with a bricked oven because his wi-fi failed for 5 minutes while they had a half-baked turkey in there... and it took 5 days to get a technician to fix it for them while the door was locked.
lmao, I swore off any and all smart appliances. What do you mean you can't even OPEN the door?!
I know there are some dryers/washers like this too. Where I live, it's not uncommon to have like... 3-4 days of power loss in the winter because the storms are getting worse... somehow I still heard stories of people being locked out of their washing machines for days with wet clothes inside! And I'm like : huuuuuuuuuuuh... shouldn't there be a fail safe mechanism that releases the lock if the power fail?! 🤦‍♀️
"smart" is a misnomer, is what I am saying.
(and all the privacy issues)

Thrilled to hear someone say 'Function First' as if the function is not priority you end with cheap fixes.

Bison. I would never put bison in my house, except my freezer! 😂

I use the 1936 Cannon gas cooker that was in the house when I moved in over 25 years ago. I had it checked by a gas engineer, who said it was safe to use, and it still works just as well today as when it was first installed. I also have the cast-iron, coal-fired cooking range that was fitted when the house was built, which I’ve used a few times.

My Shower has a 2 inch lip, so basically walk in and actually contains the water. Still use a nice curtain.

Open showers do work in the right application. I live in South Florida; there's more of a need here to prevent mildew for about 360 days of the year. I can rough it for those other 5 when the a/c isn't running.

I wanted a pot filler over my stove until my husband asked how the pipes were going to get there. I thought about it and we don’t have a pot filler.

My boyfriend's family has a big bathroom and a shower without any walls because they don't want to clean the glass all the time. And it makes no sense because instead you have to clean half the floor after every shower and you get cold😭

Agree with the matte black faucets. When we remodeled we replaced them with blackened chrome. It goes great with other matte black hardware.

I used to love my old clawfoot tub. If I crossed my legs, my entire body could sink into the warm water on a cold winter night, and when the water cooled, I could add more hot with my toes. Sad to say, my knees aged to the point where I can no longer fold up, and I miss my comforting private pond. If you are young and short, give it a try. Just make sure there is a grab bar nearby in case you slip getting in or out.

GREAT ADVICE! More people should see your channel before they plunk down 10's of thousands of their hard earned dollars on something they will soon hate.

@FireCracker-vd8pq 11 days ago

No hate at all. I completely agree with all of these! Especially open showers. Yuck... wetness and humidity throughout your entire bathroom. Not to mention, most things that are trend are a no-no. Classic and timeless is the way to go. In design, in fashion, in every facet of life.
