I'm so glad you get it.
I've also been a big fan of Grookey Luffy & Squirtle Franky, so seeing those here instantly had me invested.

I don't have too many arguments about what Pokémon you gave out, but I do have some suggestions about when they get their team members, if that's okay.

Luffy:
No notes, you really sold me on Pansear, when I previously would've used his extra spot for Ambipom as a Gum-Gum Fruit [purple] monkey. However, I would like to push an agenda. Of course, Ace has an Infernape. It survives Marineford, helps Luffy throughout the timeskip (ESPECIALLY "Lucy" since it's not an official Straw Hat) and eventually leaves to help Sabo practice the Flare-Flare Fruit.

Zoro: Also very good at selling me your choices. I don't remember any issues with whens. I will be circling back though to talk about Zoro/Sanji having Pokémon who hate each other...

Nami: While I do think Mudkip was a hard sell, I think stating that Bell-mère had a shiny Swampert (pink) would be cute. The Mudkip is also blue & orange, which is neat for Nojiko & Nami. I think Gimmighoul should be a starter for Nami, something she found working for Arlong but never evolved because it prioritized helping Nami save up money. It evolved in Skypiea in the City of Gold and had awesome Waver scenes during the Enel fight. Dratini could also be Skypiea, but I think it's best evolved in Weatheria studying the weather science. Honestly, this also feels like the best place to get a Castform but Nami should have that early on so it's hard to decide...
Possibly an unecessary hill to die on, but if Nami has room for other cats or a alternative cat, there's Alolan Meowth, a dark type (Alolan Persian has a funny tangerine head which is funnier than normal Persian matching her beauty); Purrloin/Liepard, a more specialized thief cat with orange-yellow spots 🍊; and the Gen 9 Sprigatito --> Meowscarada, a grass/dark starter cat with a tricky magician style fighting style. Since the climatact started out as a party trick toy, I think this synergizes well with the middle form for that point in the story.

Usopp: Hard stop, I'm sorry, but if Luffy has a Heracross Usopp needs to have Pinsir. The Stag Beetle horns look like Kabuto, it's an easy gift from Heracles'n who probably has both beetles of his own already (teaches Usopp to catch an Alpha one that lives on Bowin?). Also, imagine this: Mega Pinsir grows out its wings and becomes a Flying type. Now imagine Usopp, Brave Warrior of the Sea, riding his fearsome Mega Pokémon into battle. The power of flight allowing him to have the perfect sniping position in any battle. (Admittedly, I am being inspired by theories about Kabuto being the crew's Devil Fruit-eating weapon, but that's not necessary when Pokémon enter the fray).

Sanji: Cool team! I think there's a lot of comedy in his Blaziken acting the same around Tsareena as Sanji does around ladies (like the 'love slave'/"yes ma'am!" way, not the nosebleed/creep stuff). Not to contradict, just to add, but Torchic/Combusken should definitely be inherited from Zeff. His pirate flag features a Duck that looks a lot like those two. Parent/child stuff... :)
(Also you said shiny Feebas but you forgot about Milotic...)

[I'm worried about this being too long and losing progress, continued below...]

I dunno you tell me

Zoro's Onix gets lost because normal magnets don't work on the grandline! That's my new headcanon

No mouse pokemon for Sanji? For shame, oda...

I can imagine Usopp on Syrup Village, using Sudowoodo, Sobble, and Wimpod like stage hands to act out his tall tales to the kids. And as soon as they'd hear adults nearby, they'd scurry off-- but always get caught because Sudowoodo would always try to act like a tree instead of running

Sanji ran so much he ran on air, I think there is some suspension of belief for rapidash

That Bonsle is being tortured😭 it's not a real plant it's a ROCK😭😭😭

Luffy being a primarily grass type trainer is so funny to me

I like that each of the Straw Hats have a type leaning, but no specializations.

Here's an idea actually, Brook did not capture Laboon, Luffy did, because brook lived at a time where pokeballs did'nt existe, or were in development (he died before Roger became famous). So luffy 'catches' laboon but never uses him, waiting for the moment he finds the rumbar pirates and when he finally asks brook to join his crew durring the party at Thriller Bark, he hands Brook a pokeball and then we get the reunion with Laboon.

you COOKED with Sanji's team

I like how you came up with points in the story where the Straw Hats found their Pokémon party members

Out of all the “what if […] had a Pokemon team” its the first ive seen who gives actual backstories to why they have the Pokemon.
If id change anything, id give Robin a Kangaskhan (idk how to spell it) instead of Glaylee.
She would find the baby insanely cute and take care of it more than its mother. Plus it would remind her of her own mom.

Not giving brook spiritomb is mad work

I was just thinking about how much I missed the moth

I AM SO MAD THAT SANJI DIDIN’T GET A HITMONLEE. HITMONLEE IS THE SANJI IN THE POKEMON UNIVERSE. BROOOO

Chopper definitely should’ve had eevee, being able to evolve to different forms is the exact same as all of his points

Jallomoth: says he's a vibes man

Looks inside

Well-thought and Deliberate picks with both design and narrative resonance that progress alongside the characters.

Awesome job on the video. You could always do a video like this but with the Warlords!

I was concerned for a bit but was enjoying the picks for Luffy but the second you mentioned Gmax Rillaboom and the drums of liberation playing, it all instantly clicked and knew this video was in good hands. I will watch this video with great joy in my heart.
