Tucked deep in the mountainous gorges of the upper Nujiang River in southwest China, this is a Nuzu ethnic village that has been nearly untouched. Locals call it “Ongli” — a place “like a bird’s nest.”
No roads reach here. The only way to the village is a roughly 1.5‑kilometer ancient mule path carved into sheer cliff walls.
