The fact that I've watched all those other vids individually won't stop me from watching this masterpiece too.

The air in the subterranean hall grew hot as Smaug leaned closer, his chest glowing with the internal furnace of his wrath.
"I am Smaug!" the dragon boomed, his voice shaking the stone foundations of the Lonely Mountain. "My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears! I am the greatest of the calamities!"
Bilbo, trembling behind a stone pillar but bolstered by the Ring on his finger, took a deep breath. He remembered the old lore-scrolls of Rivendell, and a sudden, reckless courage took hold of him.
"Oh, truly a magnificent display, O Smaug the Unassessably Wealthy," Bilbo called out, his voice echoing in the chamber. "But tell me, does the Great Dragon of the North always boast so loudly to mask his diminished stature? To one who knows the histories, you seem rather... compact."
Smaug snorted, a plume of black smoke jetting from his nostrils. "Compact? I could crush a host of Elves beneath my talons! I leveled Dale in my youth!"
"Yes, Dale. A town of mere men," Bilbo replied, gaining confidence. "But you speak of your armor as if it were a novelty. Have you forgotten Glaurung? The Great Worm, the Progenitor, who needed no stolen trinkets pressed into his belly to hide his weaknesses? He was a true terror of Morgoth, stretching across the chasms of the First Age like a mountain ridge. Next to the Father of Dragons, I imagine you would look like a common garden lizard perched beside his haunches."
The dragon froze, his massive golden eyes narrowing into slits of pure fury. No one had spoken the name of the First Ancestor to him in centuries.
"Glaurung was a wingless crawler!" Smaug hissed, the gold beneath him clinking as he shifted his immense weight. "He died in the dirt! I possess the sky! I am the apex of my kind!"
"The sky, yes, a wonderful trick," Bilbo mocked gently. "An evolution born of necessity, no doubt, because your kind shrank so significantly after the fall of Thangorodrim. Ancalagon the Black blocked out the sun and broke towers in his ruin. You, my dear Smaug, merely occupy a cellar. You are the final, withered remnant of a grand lineage—shrunk to fit the small doorways of Dwarven mines."
With a deafening roar that shook dust from the ceiling, Smaug unleashed a torrent of fire, blinding and furious, but Bilbo had already slipped away into the shadows of the tunnel, leaving the insulted dragon to rage against the memory of his greater ancestors.

There is evidence that some dragons fled to Rhun, where the Blue Wizards managed to untwist their natures and breed them to become guardians. Of course, as the ages passed, they shrank in stature and ability until they were eventually mistaken for lizards, whereupon they would defensively point out that they did not do "that tongue thing."

Remember; if someone tells you "actually, if it only has 2 legs its a wyvern,"double check you aren't making heraldry in Britain in the 16th century. If you aren't, tell them to buzz off!

I don't know about sleep, but when I lay down and put this on, I was scared about what I'd committed to tomorrow, but now I'm excited for it. Soon it will be time to get it over with!

Thank you so much for your content. I have listened to almost all of your Tolkien's Legendarium videos, and have learned a ton from your videos and musings on topics that I never thought to think of myself! Your videos have also gotten me through many dark times, as your voice and delivery are incredibly soothing– so when "In Deep Sleep" came about, I said: "Ahhh, I am not the first to think this a necessity!" Again, I thank you for your content– as they say about having certain mental illnesses: "We go back to what we know, as we find comfort in certain aspects of said media, and there’s no surprises! Your channel and precious few others are that to this mental illness riddled ape. ❤
