How did the Yangtze River become so clear? The answer lies here!

So many people have devoted so much to protecting the Yangtze. More than 230,000 fishermen have given up fishing and moved ashore, trading their nets for a new role: protecting the river and the life within it. Thousands of docks, wastewater outlets, and chemical companies along the river have been systematically regulated, while greenery has begun to return to the riverbanks.

Earth has existed for 4.6 billion years, and the total amount of water on our planet has remained roughly constant. It simply keeps cycling between glaciers, clouds, rivers, and oceans. A drop of water you see in the Yangtze today may once have been snow on a mountain, a drifting cloud, or a drop in an ancient ocean. And a drop of water in the Yangtze today could one day fall as rain on your city.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of China's Yangtze River conservation campaign. Protecting the Yangtze means more than protecting a single river—it means protecting the next chapter of the water cycle that connects us all. And somewhere in that endless cycle are you, me, and everyone watching this video.
