The Witch-king of Angmar: How He Destroyed Arnor, the North Kingdom
Ranger of the Realms
2,032 views
Who was the Witch-king of Angmar before Minas Morgul made him famous? Centuries before his most infamous acts, he was already destroying kingdoms -- patiently, over eleven hundred years. The Fall of Arnor is one of Tolkien's most devastating political tragedies -- an eleven-century collapse engineered by the Witch-king of Angmar through patient manipulation, plague, and war. When Earendur's three sons fractured the realm in T.A. 861, they handed Sauron's lieutenant exactly the weakness he needed.
This Tolkien deep dive traces Arnor's destruction from Elendil's founding on Lake Evendim through the loss of the palantiri at Amon Sul, the Great Plague that emptied Cardolan, and the drowning of Arvedui Last-king in the Icebay of Forochel. Discover how the Rangers preserved the royal line across two thousand years of secret exile until Aragorn reclaimed the Sceptre of Annuminas.
