The Constitutional Court hearing on Thursday (October 1, 2026) and Friday (October 2, 2026) regarding Gibran Rakabuming Raka's high school equivalency requirements as a vice presidential candidate gave rise to two opposing views.
Ina Liem, expert witness for the relevant parties, stated in a statement on Thursday that Gibran's substantive and valid pre-bachelor's degree document is the Advanced Diploma from MDIS Singapore, although she admitted she could not interfere with the Ministry of Education and Culture's view on the requirements for equating high schools abroad with domestic ones.
The following day, Friday, the Ministry of Education and Culture explained that the equivalency to the Accounting Vocational School level is achieved through a matching method of three main indicators: a three-year study duration, accumulated six-semester report cards, and a suitable curriculum structure. The Ministry of Education and Culture also denied the existence of the term Advanced Diploma in Singapore's official education system.
